It's alive! Artists build scary suite at Ice Hotel

It's alive! Artists build scary suite at Ice Hotel | Hotel | Scoop.it
Every year, the Ice Hotel hires artists to design the interiors of the rooms. Here is one of this year's entries.
Devy Christina's insight:

The idea of Frankenstein-esque is new and fresh to be planned at Ice Hotel. Moreover, it is a good idea to have a new idea every 4 years so that the customers of the hotel are more curious about the new hotel concept, thus attract more customers to visit and stay.
However, this concept of hotel might spend a lot of money on hiring the artists as well as the establishment of the hotel rooms.

Moreover, keep changing the hotel rooms concept every 4 years make the hotel spend more cost on the design itself rather than on the improvement of services and facilities of the hotel operations. In this case, customers might think twice before planning to experience on staying in this hotel.

Nowadays, it is important for a hotel to improve its services and facilities in order to match with customers’ expectation. In addition, it is also important to maintain the hotel’s services and facilities in order to compete with the other competitors.
Furthermore, it is a good idea to use online reviews like TripAdvisor as an information provider on which have to be improved. Especially, most of people use TripAdvisor as a media to give feedback on the hotels’ services and facilities. Moreover, it is more effective to use the customers’ feedback as the benchmark of hotel improvement rather than improve other things that are less important.
On the other hand, it is critical to response quickly to those feedback especially the customers’ complaints. It is because of these responses will become the measurement of the hotels’ quality.
Thus, it is necessary for the hotel management to keep up to date with the customers’ feedback.

Nowadays, most people use social medias such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in order to connect each other as well as the world and this hotel concept will attract a lot of people especially young generations. This twitter themed hotel is new, fresh, and attractive and could be a unique selling point to be the first twitter themed hotel in Mallorca. As most people use Internet and Smartphone these days, they can easily do some research about the information of the hotel in its website.
According to the guest service cycle, this concept could provide benefits to the hotel itself. Especially, this can be matched with the first step, which is pre-arrival step. Before the guests arrive to the hotel, or when the guests make the reservations, they had the idea about the concept of the hotel. Moreover, the guests will have the idea about what the hotel is offering. If the concept or information on the hotel’s website is matched, then the guests will be happy and satisfied. However, if the hotel provides less than what the guests are expecting, they will be disappointed.
Therefore, the hotel has to provide the promised services in order to make the guests satisfied, thus build repeat customers.

In the hospitality industry, it is critical for a hotel to follow the recent trends locally and internationally. Firstly, to decorate the hotel lobby as attractive as possible to have a good first impressions when the guests coming in.
Then, the other hospitality industry trends nowadays are about cutting down the cost and manpower by adopting new technology. Moreover, it is important for a hotel to be aware with the development of technology, as it is one of the major success factors of a hotel. However, utilising the development of technology in every aspect might not bring a lot of satisfied customers. Even though the use of technology will cut down the labour cost, it is still better to have some employees to help the customers, as they want to have a human touch to assist during the stay.
On the other hand, the hotel trend also emphasizes on the matter that related on the environment. For instance, by using pump dispensers for shampoo and shower gel, it will reduce the use of plastic bottles that is really critical in the matter of global warming nowadays. Furthermore, minimizing the use of bathtubs also helps to save the environment by reducing the use of water.
Therefore, there are a lot of advantages being updated with the hospitality industry trends globally. It will not only help reducing labour cost but also help to save the environment.

Phuong Nguyen's curator insight, September 17, 2014 12:33 AM

In my perspective, social networking sites are becoming part of the travelling experience of tourists. Tourists nowadays want to share with their family and friends the location and images of their destination.

I think it's good to share the images and the review of a specific tourist place because it could potentially form the idea of an ideal place to visit or special dishes to have a taste for their social networking friends as well as the public. Especially, when celebrities are on vacation, they always share the images of the place they visit that affecting the decision of their fans to visit the place as well. Tourism and hospitality business can promote the destination or the accommodation by inviting a celebrity to come and experiment and then write or blog about it.

Another example is, when tourists write the good comments on social networking sites or they show the beautiful images of a destination, it could help to promote the business as well.

Devy Christina's comment, September 28, 2014 7:59 AM
Nowadays, Instagram is very popular among people who love travelling. It is a good way to share the photos of places, food, or experience in the hotel to the people around the world. In this way, it becomes a good media to promote and advertise the hotel as everyone can see. Furthermore, this idea is also according to the guest service cycle especially the first cycle, which is pre arrival. The first cycle allows customers or guests to have an idea about the hotel before they arrives and even makes the reservations. By looking at the photos taken by other guests, the potential customers might have an idea of what the hotel looks like. After that, if the guests’ expectation is matched with the hotel offers, they will be satisfied. On the other hand, if it does not match, they will be dissatisfied and will not come back to the hotel.
Moreover, the idea of offering a free night’s stay might attract a lot of Instagram users to post more pictures of the hotel. Therefore, it will benefit to the hotel management to help advertise the hotel to the public.
Paco Lei's curator insight, May 5, 2015 12:00 AM

Instagram and Facebook is all around the world, most people will have either of this account. People loves to shares photo and common of how wonderful they have been when they travel and visit the attraction. Which benefit the hospitality in a huge way, because when you post a photo on Instagram with you and the attraction, you will always try to make the picture looks as perfect as possible, so people can see how good looking you are and also the places you are in. which means you are actually doing a few advertisement for the places you are visiting for the industry to your friends, this can actually lead to people who wants to have the same experience as you do in the picture or even better. Instagram generally shares 40,000 images a month, which an all helping the hospitality industry to advertising. However if the visitor doesn’t enjoy the location or visit, this will also effect on how your friends see the location. Therefore I think this will benefit the high quality hotel or location, and will have less impact on places that are not so nice. Overall I think Instagram benefit a lot to the hospitality industry.

Hotel guests ordering more takeout, less room service

Hotel guests ordering more takeout, less room service | Hotel | Scoop.it

Hotel guests increasingly prefer to order their eats from takeout restaurants rather than from room service, according to data from Chicago-based online food-ordering service GrubHub Inc.

Bradley Woods's curator insight, August 22, 2014 1:16 PM
While revenues from room service declined 9.5 percent from 2007 to 2012, according to PFK Hospitality Research, GrubHub found that takeout orders to hotels increased 125 percent in the past three years after analyzing orders delivered to 8,000 hotels across the country.
Phuong Nguyen's curator insight, September 16, 2014 2:29 AM

In my opinion, I believe that room service plays an essential part in the Food & Beverage Department as well as in the hotel. For business people, they don't have time to come to the restaurant and wait for the food. They want to work in their room and have their food delivered to the room. If hotel guests order more takeout, less room service, we have to find out the problem. Is it because of the quality of food (food is not hot enough, portion is not enough compares to price) or is it because of the price (delivery charge may be too high to accept) or the time of service (normally it takes about 30mins for room service order to be delivered to the room). By finding out the problem, we can come up with the solution to optimise revenue for room service.

That’s what the accommodation Finnish hotel Kakslauttanen offers guests within a village of geodesic dome glass igloos. The unique setting merges old and new using a traditional igloo form, composed of angular glass framework.

This is such a different and unique concept of hotel especially with a glass as the roof of the hotel room that allows customers to enjoy the northern lights with the luxury ambience.
However, this kind of hotel concept might have spent a lot of cost to build because of the concept of architecture that prevents the top of the glass roof to frost. Thus, it should be an expensive accommodation to be spent on.
On the other hand, this concept of hotel might affect the surrounding environment.
Therefore, the customers might consider some of these points before they decide to stay in this hotel.

In the hospitality industry nowadays, a unique concept of hotel is quite popular. This hotel has different type of construction with the glass concept that can float in fjords. This idea enables the visitors experience Aurora Borealis in Luxury. Moreover, this hotel also emphasizes the green practices that might affect the environment, which is really important consideration when building a hotel. However, the room’s number available is limited due to the snowflake-shaped concept and to maintain the floating structures. Thus, the customers need to book very early in order to experience this new hotel.
