WEST SALEM — A picture is worth a thousand words, and in the classroom of West Salem Middle School history teacher Jenny Morgan, it’s worth a thousand lessons.

Morgan partnered with Melissa Collum, a former history teacher from Green Bay, on a project that puts cameras in the hands of Rwandan children.

A historian at the University of California at Davis has become the latest target of Turkish-American groups that have criticized -- and in some cases made legal threats against -- researchers of the Armenian genocide that took place as the Ottoman Empire collapsed. He is refusing to back away from the statement that led to this conflict, and says that the university is backing him against what he and others see as an attack on academic freedom.

TORONTO-HAIFA – The University of Haifa’s new international Master of Arts (MA) degree program in Holocaust Studies promises to be unlike any other in its field.

“This program is unique in Israel,” Dr. Yael Granot-Bein, director, Herzl Institute for Research and Study of Zionism, Strochlitz Institute for Holocaust Research, University of Haifa, told the Jewish Tribune in an email. “It offers courses both from the humanities and the social sciences; that is, psychology, anthropology, history, literature and law, as well as internships at museums and archives, plus study tours to Poland and Germany. This combination is unique.”

The talk was part of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s anti-bullying week, which promotes awareness and prevention each November.

 

“How many have been bullied?” Olsson asked the crowd. “I was bullied by the Nazis.”
