Taylor Berry's curator insight, March 19, 2015 11:24 PM

This article discusses the placement of students with disabilities in regular schools as a result of budget cuts. Almost every school district is dealing with financial troubles and is being forced to make a change to special education funding. Many school districts are choosing the easier and cheaper route, which negatively affects students with disabilities. Teachers are being laid off and students are not getting as much attention. Although inclusion is important and students with disabilities need the interaction with other students in a regular classroom, every disability is different and some students do not succeed unless they are given specialized instruction. Some districts are trying to detect disabilities early and connect with families in order to save time and ensure students are where they need to be. Looking at the needs of each individual student is so important and is something that needs to be considered more than it already is.
