Seth Dixon's curator insight, January 17, 2014 9:05 AM

The "known" world is a very slippery, problematic concept.  What is known to some is not known to others and this establishes a Meditterranean 'core' area as the heart of the known world.  Nonetheless, this is still a fascinating GIF that shows the expansion of exploration and globalization.

Arte Rupestre 4D

Arte Rupestre 4D | History 2[+or less 3].0 | Scoop.it

2013's most notorious event has been Banksy's month long show in New York City, "Better Out Than In" and to no surprise he ranks #1 this year.  So that we are able to feature a variety of artists we've grouped the whole of Banksy's epic October exhibition under the above stencil which was used to announce the 31 pieces that followed, and subsequently became the most viewed piece of the whole year.

Video // Eduardo Souto de Moura’s lecture at Harvard GSD | History 2[+or less 3].0 | Scoop.it
Architect Eduardo Souto de Moura studied sculpture and architecture at the School of Fine Arts in Porto and worked with several firms in Portugal before forming his own office in 1980.

His early work is often called “miesian” for its precisely aligned stone and glass planes and sharp rectangular volumes; his later studies in chiseled masonry and landscape interventions recall the sensibility of Alvaro Siza, for whom he worked for five years. Souto De Moura has become well known for his large-scale projects like the Braga stadium (2003), the Burgo Tower in Porto (2007), and the Paola Rego Museum at Cascais (2009). A professor at the University of Porto, he has taught and lectured widely. Recipient of the Pritzker Prize in 2011, he won the Wolf Prize and Veronica Rudge Green Prize in Urban Design in 2013.
