Paris Fashion Week – runway report 6 - FT.com

Paris Fashion Week – runway report 6 - FT.com | Highlights Design Industry Events | Scoop.it
What happens when someone – a big, important, global, heritage brand – sends a major “up yours” to fashion? When a designer says: “Forget heritage and DNA and all that rubbish we natter on about”?
retail watch's insight:

from the FT article click here

"That’s the generous interpretation. The non-generous reaction would see it as blowing a raspberry at all the folks who gave him flak last season for being high-handed. Either way, undermining expectations is a risky thing, and in this show Mr Slimane undermined everyone who dared to suggest they knew what Saint Laurent was about: retailers, consumers and, probably, executives. In doing so, he also undermined the whole fashion bargain, which says a designer shows a nice collection full of accessible but elegant clothes that stores can support, because after all, this is a business. In fact, he barely showed fashion at all, though stripped of the styling there were plenty of commercially desirable tailored jackets, oversize sweaters, furs, and leather dresses; mostly, he showed attitude.

Hate it or laugh out loud, the show provoked probably the strongest reactions of any collection this entire season. And in getting everyone so het up, Mr Slimane exposed the vacuum that has been at the heart of so many other collections, which were all those things his clothes were not: respectful and luxurious and terribly polite."

Big Data, consumers and digital retailing

Big Data, consumers and digital retailing | Highlights Design Industry Events | Scoop.it
While Google Now raises plenty of privacy hackles, it’s also a stunningly useful example of the power of big data and a major advantage for Andr
retail watch's insight:

This article is very good on explaining the Google Android Innovations that might make Mac seem passé.

Big Data = taking past data from your internet searches, clicks, and sites you visit and storing all this data.

This data means BIG MONEY. These giant servers, Credit Cards and Google and so many more, now have a huge amount of data they can either use or sell to people interested in knowing your habits... so they can talk to you about the appropriate thing at the appropriate time.

As a retailer I get. As a shopper, I hate it. It makes me feel vrey very uncomfortable.

Big data in store = is also being used and developed. A world where there would be a connection between you (via your mobile), the store or city or street your are on, the brands server, and why not a third party?

Big data is fine, but it should be at the consumers choice. A person wants to be followed and coached around a store, a goggle search, what blogs they should read etc, can do this. A person that does not want it, should be able to turn this off, and really feel safe about that off button.
