The new "question-of-the-week" is:

What is the biggest mistake teachers make in writing instruction, and what should they do instead?

In Part One, Lisa Eickholdt, Kathleen Neagle Sokolowski, Mary Ann Zehr, Nancy Frey and Valentina Gonzalez share their commentaries. You can listen to a 10-minute conversation I had with David and Jill on my BAM! Radio Show. You can also find a list of, and links to, previous shows here.

Learning vs Training in the workplace: What are the differences?

Learning vs Training in the workplace: What are the differences? | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

Learning is a key component of successful organizations' strategic plans. To remain relevant and viable, organizations need to be agile in a day when the workplace is changing rapidly. To be agile, your employees need to learn.

Training is a part of learning and typically happens for compliance purposes, or when a new initiative is launched. It is not a part of what employees do every day. Valuable time away from work is spent on training. To make it worth the investment, the learning gained during training needs to be transferred to the workplace.

In the future, training will not be enough. To be agile and responsive to the rapid changes in the workplace, people need to learn every day—and that learning needs to align with business goals. Training will still need to be part of the strategy but learning will be the core tenant of success.

Teaching Introverted Students: How a 'Quiet Revolution' Is Changing Classroom Practice

Teaching Introverted Students: How a 'Quiet Revolution' Is Changing Classroom Practice | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it
The suspicion that they may be holding quiet and otherwise bright students to an unfair standard is driving some teachers to change their conception of class participation, which can count for up to half of a student’s overall grade in some classrooms and shape the teacher’s perception of student success. For Pawlak and Rosevear, the emphasis on teaching to personality types promoted by the New York City-based Quiet Revolution seemed like a way of clearing away some longstanding notions that were getting in the way of acknowledging, and rewarding, their quiet students’ unique contributions. Quiet Revolution is the brainchild of writer Susan Cain, whose 2012 book, Quiet: the Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking, became a bestseller, and whose talk on making the workplace more inclusive of different personality styles became a TED Talk phenomenon. Since then, Cain has set her sights on changing the classroom, where she says teachers unconsciously reward the extroverts who dive headfirst into discussions, sometimes without much forethought.

Keys to creating the Ultimate School Culture

Keys to creating the Ultimate School Culture | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

The underlying beliefs and norm values that administrators, teachers and students hold about their school creates a culture. Numerous educators, writers and researchers have written about school culture that is normally divided into two basic forms: positive and negative. Of course, every school district and school leader wishes that their school fall into the positive camp, but it takes more than wishing. Most of the responsibility and accountability has been placed on members of the school administration, but truly, school culture is shaped by everyone who is part of a school; it takes a village!

Thes best administrators know that a positive school culture is based upon the overall satisfaction and safety of the students, staff, and community members–and they also know that if they don’t intentionally lead the shaping of the school culture, others will!

So how can you build a culture where everyone is beating down the doors to get in? It all begins with relationships! Creating positive relationships where everyone feels a strong sense of belonging and a vibe of trust is central to an atmosphere of positivity. Once established, watch the magic happen.

106 experts share their thoughts on the Future of Education (Part 2: Edtech)

106 experts share their thoughts on the Future of Education (Part 2: Edtech) | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

“The future of education is digital. We live in an increasingly digital world, where technology is a part of our lives in so many ways. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we incorporate digital technology into education. To prepare students for higher education and future jobs, we must ensure that they are familiar with technology. Administrators who want to prepare their K-12 school for the future of education should look at the ways they use technology in the classroom. Schools that are future-ready are those that blend technology with learning seamlessly and include technology in nearly every lesson.”

I just shared my thoughts on the future of education, but what do my peers think? To find out, we decided to produce an expert roundup on the topic of the future of education. We asked 106 education experts to answer one question: “What are your thoughts on the future of education?” In part 2 of this series, we will focus on the future of edtech.

The report then outlines a variety of examples of programs that are closing dimensions of the digital divide, and lays out a framework toward developing a set of Guiding Principles for Digital Equity, that could guide developers, philanthropists, venture capitalists, policymakers, researchers, and educators toward more effective strategies for leveraging technology in the service of equality. 3 Misconceptions About Innovation in Education

3 Misconceptions About Innovation in Education | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it
“Innovation” is one of the most used words in education right now. It is something that I am obviously passionate about, hence the reason I wrote the book, “The Innovator’s Mindset”.  I am scared that we use the word “innovation” in the wrong way when there is power to this type of thinking. Words do not become “buzzwords” because they are used too frequently; they become “buzzwords” when they are used frequently in an incorrect manner.

Here are some misconceptions about the word that we need to dispell to protect “innovation” in education from becoming a buzzword.
