To allow our brains to develop their full potential, “we need to take control over how we use technology,” said Gazzaley. “How do we build stronger brains so that we have less distracted minds?” This can be done by modifying our behavior, but he also believes that technology itself can play a role in enhancing cognition.

Is Project-Based Learning the new way to teach?

Is Project-Based Learning the new way to teach? | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

Imagine a school now, though, where students choose their own curriculum and teachers are more like mentors guiding them through activities and topics of interest. Instead of homework and tests, portfolios and exhibitions would display your films, writing, art, and creations, and you were constantly encouraged to keep doing more. A new wave of schools are increasing in number, particularly in the U.S., many of them flipping the traditional style of schooling to a more personalized-style of education.

The SAMR Model: Effective technology integration in classrooms | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

Since the dawn of 21st century, the world has become more and more dependent on technology. Today, if you sit and take a look around, you will see yourself surrounded by all form of modern gadgets and previously unheard technologies. From your kitchen to your study table, from your very own cell phones to the appliances you generally use daily; technology has created a ubiquitous network around us. Technology has become important in every aspect of human life, from the time you wake up to the time you go to the bed. It makes work easy and fast, and in this fast running world who doesn’t want things to be done easy and efficiently.

The rise of technology in life has made it mandatory for institutions to make technology a part of the education process. Over the years, schools, colleges and classrooms have taken a number of steps to integrate technology in the pedagogy. . Sometimes it is a new online course and sometimes it is a new teaching approach to be soon introduced in classrooms.

How do we prepare students for the future? Focus on Experiential Competencies

How do we prepare students for the future? Focus on Experiential Competencies | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

As educators, we constantly evaluate whether our programs and curricula prepare students sufficiently for the current and projected needs of industries. That fact has never been more true as new graduates face a fast-changing workforce and education is now preparing students for jobs that don’t even exist yet.

A crucial mix of subject matter expertise and critical experiential competencies will be necessary for new graduates to thrive. A recent survey from MindEdge found that 42 percent of U.S. managers anticipate automation will lead to job loss, and re-tooling talent and augmenting competencies and skills will be essential to position employees for the future job market. Thus, we must ask ourselves - are our universities and colleges preparing students with the right competencies for the future of work?

Using Theoretical Perspectives in Developing Understanding of TPACK

Using Theoretical Perspectives in Developing Understanding of TPACK | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

In this chapter complementary theoretical perspectives are elaborated. The theory of technological mediation studies the teacher-technology relationship and accentuates the material dimensions of technology integration. This theory postulates that teachers and technology constitute each other. The theory of situated cognition features the social dimensions technology integration and premises that teachers actively construct their TPACK through experiences in practice. We argue that both social and the material dimensions are needed when teaching is considered a design science. If teachers take the designer’s role and design and enact technology environments for learning they develop their TPACK, in particular when they do so collaboratively.

Instructional Designers Are Teachers

Instructional Designers Are Teachers | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it
Instructional designers are teachers. Three-fold. On Monday, they are teachers of teachers, assisting with the framing of an instructor’s ideas for their class into the shape of the LMS or other digital platform. They know, or should know, what is possible, what isn’t possible, what stretches the boundaries of tradition, and what bends toward new and imaginative applications.

But to define instructional designers as only this, as experts in content delivery, is reductive and incorrect. Because instructional designers are not IT staff. They are not technologists. At the root of what they do is a maddening desire to create meaningful learning experiences in digital space.
