When you turn 100

When you turn 100 | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

This is the first centennial of heresies and to celebrate it we are publishing the Heresy book, which will be available on Amazon and other online bookstores and whose royalties will be donated in their entirety to the social works that Heresy supports (see "Causes for beating your wings" at the left margin of this blog), so we will continue creating energy until it transforms the universe, and so Heresy becomes a butterfly that beats its wings to multiply good Karma.

The heresy today is that even when all the rites are so important, even when everything is so important and meaningful, nothing means anything. Pain, problems, and breakdowns in communication are always created from the meaning that we assign to each detail. It's important to value, celebrate, stop, raise a cup, smile and hug; it's important to enjoy the small things in life and it's also important to remember that nothing about this means anything at all, that in the grand plan of the Universe any greatness is just cosmic dust for the continued creation of greatness; it's only the seed of what continues to be and we can't stop to gloat over our own story because right there, in this egotistical-narcisistic act we lose everything that we had gained.

So with this centennial of heresies we will celebrate with hugs and smiles; I celebrate it with my heart full of thanks to all my friends that read it every day, to those that write comments, to those that inspire more, to those that I don't know but with whom I have connected myself through this space and to those whom I am still to meet.

We celebrate it because Heresy is already read in more than twenty-two countries and in four months has been read more than five thousand times, we celebrate it because thanks to the generosity of you all, Heresy is a source of transformation.

Equally we recognize that the first one hundred are only the first one hundred and facing ourselves we have a life in which to continue being heretics and continue transforming the world, with each act of love, with each reflection, with each word and each hug that arises from these heresies. Moreover we recognize that at the end of the day, nothing means anything, and this is nothing more than a heresy.

I give you all a big hug for all these first hundred heresies!!!

The ostrich effect

The ostrich effect | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

This week a friend caused me to reflect on the "ostrich effect": there are moments in life when we feel like we need to stick our heads in a hole in the ground and let happen what will happen. I think about the ostrich and I smile to myself because I know about one thousand moments in which I have stuck my head in a hole and have pretended that by doing so everything would happen as it should and that my problems would solve themselves on their own. I imagine the ostrich as seen from the outside with its tiny head in the darkness and the rest of its body here in reality... who are we fooling?

The heresy today is that as much as we want to hide the truth and even try and hide from ourselves, reality doesn't go away or change by avoiding it; reality changes only if we change it ourselves. The ostrich head that we don’t see if we stick it in a hole is attached to a body which is one hundred times bigger, and the body isn't going anywhere the head isn't; the body always follows the head...

There isn't any hiding place that is big enough. The only way of getting rid of problems, changing reality, and being able to get on as cool as a cucumber is if we get our head out of the hole, face up to what we need to face up to, restore integrity in our lives, and get stronger with the experience.

The ostrich looks pretty with its tiny head hidden in the hole, but it's even more beautiful when it raises its head up with its chin and beak held high! What do we have to face up today then?

The goat and the butterfly

The goat and the butterfly | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

This heresy will be a continuation of "The Butterfly Effect," an invitation to transform the world by way of simple acts with profound impacts, which will create a "chain of giving" whose ramifications we will know little of and will return to us in good Karma and with positive energy,

Today's heresy is an invitation to be butterflies in this small way that becomes big and unstoppable. I present to you Heifer International, a non-profit organization that serves as a vehicle between us butterflies and families overwhelmed by poverty. The mechanism is very simple: through a donation as small as ten dollars, Heifer finds a family and gives it an animal (goat, chicken, sheep, cow, bees, etc.) and training to feed it, care for it, and feed themselves from its products - without killing the animal. Once this family establishes a model for sustainable development on their small ranch, it passes one of its young to another family taking part in the program: it is a chain of giving that never stops.

The fundamental principle is that we don't need to be millionaires to relieve the hunger and poverty of the world; the true transformation of our Universe begins with us, with small acts that are easily reproduced. It’s a service easily rendered because we make it easy for others to lend a hand as well and we also enable the gift of giving, a principle that Bill Clinton named "passing the gift on" in his book "Giving" which testifies to this heresy: only through small acts are big transformations achieved.

Heifer International is such a well put together organization that it has received the help of Bill Clinton, not only mentioning it in a chapter in his book "Giving" but also in various public appearances such as the CNN special "The Poverty Trap." The heresy is that it only takes one butterfly to transform the world; the invitation is to begin to flap our wings.

The strength of the heart

The strength of the heart | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:
After leaving aside all doubt and distancing ourselves from the black hole, what's left is our own power, which once completely connected with our essence becomes pure love, which makes all intentions become reality; this is the true power of the heart. This heresy is rendered weak when it comes up against a heart swollen with love, how to describe the magnitude of the wave that drags, pushes, rises, and raises up, and as Alejandro Sanz says, brings you closer to God? How to describe this feeling that is the source of all creation? How to be able to explain a heresy of such power? Today my heresy is that only when we completely hand ourselves over to the power of our heart and let this be the force that possesses us will we be able to understand the source of life; only then will we be able to live by God; only then we will be able to feel that a Supreme Being exists that can do anything and feel that we can do anything when we connect ourselves with the source... and the source is nothing other than our own heart. My heresy is that we are One with God when we love, when we hand ourselves over without limit to this love, and we let ourselves be completely taken by it. This heresy is an invitation to follow our heart, deliver ourselves to its power, hand ourselves over to love, without limits, without reserve, without care, to live love from its most infinite and beautiful essence without holding anything back, to be this magic that transforms everything, to be the happiness that gives all and can receive all and understand that only in love can one look God into the eyes. And always with love give thanks to Life because we are sources of life, thank our hearts for being the seed of the madness of love, and thank the beloved heart /our loved ones for the daily dance of giving and receiving love. That's why today, in this heresy, I want to thank you because with you I live looking at God in the eyes every day, because your love connects me with my own heart. I love you.

When our soul itches

When our soul itches | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

There are days when the soul itches; it's an "I don't know what" sensation that rises from the stomach and compresses air which then gets stuck up in the nose in almost solid chunks of breath that won't seem to get out no matter what. And you begin to search for reasons, and of course you find them, firstly because the heart is always able to find them, secondly because there are simply always reasons for which the soul itches.

The strange thing is that even after finding all the reasons, the itching continues, maybe gets worse, and then we try and find out how to scratch the soul and here each person has their own method: some go shopping, others sleep, others go for a spin in the car, others go for a walk, some clean everything, they turn the house inside out and they organize it again, while others simply don't do anything at all... and eventually the soul stops scratching. That is, until the next time.

Today, my heresy is that when the soul itches, it simply scratches because we are alive, and this itching is simply the manifestation of the fact that we have lived things that have invited us to "stretch the rubber band;" this itching is perhaps a sign that we haven't stretched it enough; then the antidote is precisely that: stretch it!

And how do we do this? Well let's go back to step one; the heart will always bring us to the precise moment in which the rubber band is not stretched out enough. Now, before "scratching the soul," we will do exactly that which we had avoided doing: reestablish integrity, recover authenticity, heal communication: there is something that we know we don't want to do but it's exactly what we need to do so that this itching becomes greatness. And what can we do when it's already too late to do something? Well there is an antidote for this as well: forgiveness. We forgive ourselves for being human, for not having stretched the rubber band as much as we could have, for having remained short on some occasions.  We forgive ourselves and we continue onwards, with the memory that the soul itches when we are unstretched.

And like this we complete the past. When the soul itches, it is inviting us to recognize what we have lived, to be thankful for opportunities for growth, to reestablish integrity with ourselves and with our Universe, and to look to the future with eyes filled with hope, giving thanks for one more second, one more day of love in our hearts, giving thanks for a new opportunity.

Giving thanks because in the end, everything is heresy!.

Creating happiness

Creating happiness | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

Continuing in line with the last heresy, creating happiness is our unlimited power, that for absurd reasons of the Ego, we limit ourselves in creating, perhaps thinking that life is difficult or that we don't deserve all that is within our reach.

Today's heresy is a call to seem crazy, it's an invitation to create happiness for no reason whatsoever, that's to say, the heresy is that we don't need any reason to be happy, we can be happy at any moment because we choose to be happy, simply: I am happy because I am happy.

Logic doesn't work the same way: when I say to someone "I am happy," consequently the question then is: "why?" and we immediately begin to search for the reason: this happened to me, I did this, I accomplished this, I have this, anything. But what happens when we simply declare: "I am happy" and when asked why, well, simply there is no reason, I am happy because I choose to be, I am happy because I am happy... it sounds a bit crazy, but it's the unlimited power that we all carry within us.

How do I achieve this? The first step is being conscious that happiness is a personal choice which there need not be reasons for, happiness is a state to which we all have access because it lives inside of us, because we are entities of light that produce happiness, because this is our feeling. Once this consciousness exists what is left is to simply free ourselves from the search for reasons to be happy, it's as easy as looking for reasons to breathe: I breathe because I breathe. I am happy because I choose to be.

After all, everything is a heresy...

Creating opportunities to fail

Creating opportunities to fail | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

It seems like madness: creating opportunities to fail? Without doubt, this is today's heresy. We live avoiding failure; they teach us that failure is horrible, that it is a sinister and painful experience, that we should avoid it at all costs. We train ourselves at all of our lives to avoid the possibility of failing and what we end up doing is watching life pass from the stands, paralyzed because perhaps we might fail...

But this 'perhaps' is just that: a possibility. The other possibility is for success, which means to say avoiding occasions for failure we are also avoiding occasions for success, the opportunities for success in our lives. Thus we get used to what we know, which doesn't pose risk, which doesn't scare us, and so we lose all the opportunities for greatness that life offers to us.

And what happens if we fail? Well, this is the big heresy: hardly if ever do we fail, because even what we define as failure is such a great teaching that we emerge strengthened and we will be able to create something even bigger, and as such there is never really ever failure... isn't this absolutely incredible? We let ourselves get held up by a ghost that doesn't even exist.

So starting today, look to create opportunities to fail in your life. Someone who hasn't failed enough hasn't lived enough!

The privilege of loving

The privilege of loving | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

I love the definition: privilege. We take love as if it were any old thing, as if it were free, as if Life owed it to us; but love and loving are privileges that someone has granted to us, the light that illuminates the path to the heart, the permission to enter to its soul, all an absolute privilege.

So with this privilege comes the responsibility of love and the responsibility to be loved, as the fox says to the Little Prince: "we are responsible for that which we have tamed;" we are responsible for taking care of this privilege, for being deserving of the biggest right that we grant to another person and that another person grants to us; we are responsible for sculpting our soul every day to be worthy of love.

With this song by Mijares and Lucero, my aunt Rosalba, one of the people closest to my heart, told me in a few words that she loves me unconditionally, that I can be who I really am when I am with her, that I don't have to try and be anything, and that above all I never have to regret being who I am. With this song, she opened a new space in my heart for her heart and by her words and her love I understood the magnitude of the privilege of loving, of loving her, of loving those that I love, and of the love of those that love me just as she does: unconditionally.

My heresy is gratitude to Life for the privilege of loving so many magnificent human beings that have given me access to their soul; my heresy today is recognition that with the privilege of loving comes responsibility for the loved being and for this love. Today the invitation is to explore all the relations in our life where we have been given the privilege of loving and to evaluate if we are being responsible for this love, if we are appreciating all that it means when someone lets us love them.

Into the flame with love

Into the flame with love | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

I have continued working with my friend Joseph.  More than work, it is a game we play where we discover and learn.  Ken plays with us and we create indescribable miracles in each conversation.  Today, one of those creations was based on the topic of “going to hell with God”.  I’d rather call it “into the flame with love” now.

It is a reflection on what it means to be “in a lower place" accompanied by love; that place where all you feel is mud, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, the place where you feel the mud makes you slip every time you try to take a step to get out of it.

My heresy? Love is the power that gets us out of the mud, out of that lower place.  Self respect is the light that guides us safely to our destination.  That is to say, self-respect is God’s light, the light of the Universe that we carry in our heart, where “going to hell with God” hand in hand with love, hell doesn’t feel so bad.

Now, the love we get from outside also nourishes our self-respect and makes it grow.  That is the love that enables us to take one step after the other, taking one day at a time, getting out little by little until we can eventually look back, see the flame that was burning us and give thanks to the Universe for the love that was our strength and influence.

To be light

To be light | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

For some reason, I have associated the concept of “light” with superficiality.  My entire life, I have thought and valued the weight of depth to the point that, at times, it has been just that: a weight or burden.  Lately, I have learned to value lightness from the perspective of freedom, releasing attachments and the capacity to fly.

Somehow, this concept of lightness makes me think of minimizing needs, in a simple life, contrary to our race in life to accumulate things, events, experiences, because the common paradigm is: “more is better”.  My heresy today is that there really is no better.  There are moments that are so deep that they touch our soul, ranging from being able to “be” with another soul in the intimacy of their soul, feeling that depth and marvel at life for its magic.  Blessed are those moments, and blessed are those souls...

But there are also times to find happiness in lightness, in the contemplation of a minimum, in the freedom of feeling that you don’t have to have “more", that we are already there, to stop and breathe and enjoy and simply "be", with no judgment of superficiality, with no judgment at all.  Simply enjoying the lightness of being, the same lightness that Kundera called "unbearable", which now seems absolutely delightful to me.

I will be light today and I will learn from that lightness.  I will bring more lightness to my life and I will let go of the attachments that, in the end, do not make me a better person.  My heresy today is the fact that I have discovered that my path to the depth I have yearned for is precisely based on the freedom generated by my own lightness.

The right ones

The right ones | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

Today I have learned a very important truth: those who truly "are," are at our side regardless of the reason, without asking them to be, and even when all evidence points to our guilt. The "right ones" are there even when they don't understand or even when it seems that we are the guilty ones and the ones that have messed things up; they are sure of who we are, of our essence, and are simply at our sides through any type of trial and tribulation.

So these situations in which the shadow of doubt swirls about our head are excellent because our friends have to choose: choose if they believe in us based upon what they know about us and who they know us to be or choose if they believe in what seems to be, even though it sounds unbelievable, but is the evidence at hand; and when they choose we find out if they were really friends or not.

The heresy is beautiful: the person that chooses to stay at your side without asking for explanations, without passing judgment, and even when you seem to be guilty is the person that is the right one; those that stay, are the right ones. What a great gift in life to be able to identify them!

The generosity of forgiveness

The generosity of forgiveness | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:
All my life I thought that it was an act of humility to feel that I didn't have to forgive someone that offered me their apologies, I felt that if I simply said to them "don't worry, you don't have any reason to apologize to me" I was being noble with this person that opened their soul in front of me. Since then I have had the opportunity to feel from a first-person perspective the immense gift of forgiveness when after profound reflection in which I have recognized my insincerities, I approached the person, asked for forgiveness, and received it. The moment of forgiveness is simply magic; it’s the permanent eraser of life. Forgiving is having the greatness and generosity to speak with each other about the acts of the other person that caused pain and then choosing to strengthen the relationship; leaving behind whatever vestige of feeling that is not love, is to clean, restore integrity, and to create a space where creation can occur again. Today's heresy is that only the person who is truly grand and generous forgives as an act of love and as a commitment to the present and future of the relation. While your heart is closed to forgiveness, there really is no path to greatness. My heresy is that forgiveness is the biggest gift that I can offer, because it isn't just love, it is renewed love, it's bruised love, its proven love, its love that creates and re-creates, its the sowing of new life. Today I want to give thanks for forgiveness and I want to commit myself to actively using it; I want to leave any vestiges of pain behind and be someone that generously sows love. Today I want to invite you to be an instrument of love by way of forgiveness and to be deep and generous when recognizing our own inauthenticities, opening spaces for hugs in each act of reconciliation.

The miracle of resurrection

The miracle of resurrection | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

Today is Easter Sunday, a day in which half of the world celebrates the resurrection. Homilies and new liturgy, white clothing and colored eggs, each in their own way, from their own point of view.

Today from this heretic's window I also am going to celebrate the miracle of resurrection with another one of my heresies: we are the ones that have the power to create the miracle of resurrection and we don't have to wait for anything or anyone that does us the transformation that we want to see take place in our lives.

The symbol of the resurrection is there to remind us that at any moment that we choose we can be reborn, invent the life that we want, create any intent and live it, shed our skin, our shroud, the layers, the grease that accumulates on us with the stiffening of the days and simply take the step that carries us from the tomb to a new life.

The danger is that there are very pleasant and comfortable tombs. There are tombs with diamonds, air conditioning, the newest lines of car; there are tombs with monotony disguised in peace and equilibrium; there are tombs where one dies buried alive but has the illusion of continuing to live, and that's why they are dangerous: because life goes from us while trapped in an illusion.

The heresy is that we don't have be named Jesus to be able to resurrect: if we so choose, we are the owners of resurrection. So today, more than the new liturgy, the water, the white candles, the white clothing and the colored eggs, the call is to check out how alive we are, how comfortable our tomb where we are buried is, how much courage we really have in choosing our lives, and then resurrect, just like that, in a moment of miracle.

The black hole of doubt

The black hole of doubt | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

The answer to all of life's questions hides behind a question named doubt. Doubt is a black hole that sucks up all of our energy, that takes away power, all the power, from us, that absorbs our dreams and our ability to make them reality.

In the infinitesimal moment in which we harbor even the slightest doubt in our hearts, we have already lost the ability to accomplish our goal; we have already contaminated our being with the seed of evil that eats away at relations, dreams, and lives.

Today the heresy is that the answer to all our questions lies in the fundamental question that comes about from the doubt: "would it be possible that...?" The moment in which we begin to doubt if we'll be successful, or begin to doubt a friend, or our partner, at this moment the cord of light that magic creates is broken; at this moment we are expelled from Eden; at this moment we are using reason to its fullest extent, that which separates us from animals, and by this use of reason that we call doubt, we also separate ourselves from the infinite power that was bestowed upon us for achieving everything that we want in our lives.

Where there is room for doubt, there's no room for life, and that's why today there isn't another heresy, today the only heresy is that there is no room for doubt... never again.

The cost of being right

The cost of being right | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

I am always right, always. You are always right, always. Reason is a chameleon-like glue that adapts to whoever uses it: from the perspective of each person, from one's own point of view, in this line of thinking, each person has their own opinion, and each person is right: the truth is in the eye of the beholder.

Then our Ego comes to play in the equation: we always want to be right; of course we are always right! We consider ourselves to be owners of the truth, as if our "version of the truth" were the truth itself, as if we were the size of the entire Universe itself, and we could know all of its slightest revelations. We act like owners of truth and reason, and I repeat, we are.

And an immediate question is: "and what's so bad about that?" Nothing, there's nothing wrong about being right, but it does carry with it a related cost: the relationship. Whenever we face someone else thinking, "I am right," we are necessarily judging the other and doing so mistakenly. Very probably we are also creating a situation in which he or she is pigeonholed in "their" logic and in "their truth," that for them would be "logic/the truth." Each from their own perspective closes themselves off from others, which isn't any way to "convince" anybody and each goes on in their own way, full of their logic and truths, but very much lacking love in many cases, and with damaged relationships and dead relationships because of so many clashes stemming from reason.

Today, my heresy is that it isn't worth it to be right, it isn't worth it because you have to pay to get to that point and feel like the winner and owner of "the truth," when what we lose, what is at play, is love, it's the relationship, it's the other person, and at the end of the day, it's oneself. We wind up being right but without happiness, and if our goal in life is to be happy, well then we lose sight of the goal, and so lose ourselves.

It isn't worth it.

And so I have begun to practice "non-reason" in my life. If I am right or not, I don't even ask myself, I have chosen to be completely "irrational," without reason, I have simply chosen to believe that I do not possess and will never possess absolute truth, and while I live, I will chose love and happiness over any reason, and after all, I have lived long enough with reason in my life!

After all, reason is also a heresy!

Creating greatness

Creating greatness | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

It all began with a conversation I had with my best friend, this crazy guy that I’ve adored through all the lives I’ve lived and who knows the feelings I have in my heart before I can even figure them out myself. We talked about love and indifference, and in this context he spoke to me about the power for making great whoever I want to and his words stuck with me until after a couple of months of reflections, I have been able to understand the true heresy: people are as great as we 'listen' them to be, as great as we ‘create’ them.

This heresy then implies that nobody is great or stops being so, people simply are who they are, we, in our way of 'listening to them,' in our way of creating them, choose to let them be created great and then love is the instantaneous consequence of our act of creation. In the same way, we have the ability to stop 'creating' them great or to simply not create them great and instantaneously we have chosen non-love that sometimes can be indifference. Nobody changed, nobody was or stopped being as such, it was ourselves, alone, the entire time.

As I write this, I can't stop thinking about "The Matrix"; what if everything that we believe to be is simply a story created by us? What if everything we believe to be real simply isn't? What happens then if we have all the power to not only create greatness, but also love, wellbeing, happiness, prosperity, and of course, all the power to create the opposite?

It occurs to me then that we live a big part of our lives creating our own problems and obstacles and it occurs to be that the most absurd happiness is only as distant as our own choice of creating it, of creating greatness in all those that surround us and thus create love in our lives.

They're not responding to me

They're not responding to me | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

I still hear in my head the insouciant tapping of the sing-song: "they’re not responding to me," a tip-tape that I heard in one of my Landmark Education courses and that certainly has been of great help each time we return to this space where we feel bad, judged, or criticized by another's opinion, simply: they're not responding to me.

Consider that nobody responds to anybody else and we are all simply responding to how the world occurs from our perspective.  Our perspective is filled with our stories, prejudices, points of views, it's to say, all that seems to be a response to my acts, isn't really, and is really an "opinion" based in that which each person carries with them.

It's also to say that my heresy runs in both directions: nor am I responding to them. Each time that I give my opinion about someone, I judge them, I criticize them simply manifesting something about myself that perhaps bothers me or makes me uncomfortable, and it’s a good place for beginning to look at ourselves in the mirror and for beginning to analyze "why am I responding like this?" and "what is there inside me that bothers me?"

And when we look at it from this perspective, I can't help but feel that we are a universe of autistic beings, we go about thinking that we are communicating with others when in truth we are only responding to our own fears and insecurities and destroying communication with each act of "generosity with our opinions." What am I responding to? Rather, when I listen, and I really try to understand what other beings of light carry inside of their souls, only as such can I then begin to construct a world of real communication, though meanwhile we are just autistic beings in the universe.

Remember then: "they’re not responding to me."

P.S. The long absence of Heresy is due precisely to the fact that I thought that "they were responding to me" and it took me almost twenty days to get out of my own autism and to recover communication with you all. They're not responding to me!

When the answers elude you or seem evasive, logic fails or doesn’t even apply, and the heart is tangled up in a mess of feelings, the heresy is to simply flow and let flow.

The Taoist principle of flowing proceeds from the immense power of water, uncontainable and unstoppable and without doubt as weightless and light, a drop of water is the most inoffensive thing that can exist, but when water stops flowing, she will search for her path and will always find her way to her destiny.

Flowing is today’s heresy, flowing in order to take from the power of the Universe itself, flowing in order to try and not direct our destiny, rather flowing so that destiny chooses us, as Gibran says, “if we are found to be worthy of such.”

So I present to you Gibran so that he can explain to us what his words mean and so that he can talk to us about love and its unlimited flowing.

“An so Alimtra said to him: “Talk to us about Love.” And he raised his head and patiently contemplated the town, and upon observing the reigning silence, replied in a thundering voice:

When love arrives to you, follow it, even when your paths are hard and difficult to follow. And when its wings sweep you up and into it, give yourself over to it, even though the sword that it hides under its wings can hurt you. And when it speaks to you, believe in it, even though its voice can destroy your dreams as the North Wind can wipe out your gardens.

Because even when love can be redress, it can also be punishment; because it will make you believe, but will then subdue you afterwards; even although it may ascend with you to the highest of heights and caress your most intimate fibers, these that shudder under the touch of the sun. And so it will also descend to your roots and shake them no matter how firmly planted they be in the earth.

However many husks of corns as you gather with it, it will whip you until you feel your impotence. It will toss you around you and pull you to pieces. It will grind you down until you turn white.

It will knead you until you are flexible. And later it will destine you to sacred fire to transform you into blessed bread for God's sacred festival. Love will do all these things with you so that you may learn the secrets of the heart, and with this knowledge transform you into a fragment of Life's heart.

But if you are taken prisoner by fear, you will find only love's peace and the pleasure of the same. Then it will be better that you cover up your nakedness and you escape from the agitation of love. You will enter in a world without seasons where you can laugh, but where your smile will never be whole, and you will cry, but never shedding all of your tears.

Nothing gives love but that which is love itself, nor will you ever obtain anything that isn't given from itself. Love does not possess anything, not does it want to be possessed, because love is enough in order to love.

When you love, you must not say, 'God is in my heart,' rather, 'I am in God's heart.' And if you don't then believe that you are able to channel the course of love, then love, if it considers you to be worthy of such, will be who directs your course.

Love's only wish is that of fulfilling itself. But if you love and you feel the welling up of desires, permit that these desires be your own; that they flow and be the murmuring brook that intones its song at night, to learn of the pain of excessive tenderness, to be hurt by your own knowledge of love and to bleed voluntarily and delightedly, to wake at sunrise with the heart in ecstasy and to give thanks for another day of love, to rest at mid-day and contemplate the ecstasy of love, to return with gratitude at the hour of afternoon's arrival, and to later give yourself over to sleep with a prayer for the beloved heart of yours and a hymn of praise on our lips."

It's not so bad

It's not so bad | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

It amazes me to realize that each time I face up to situations that I had avoided because I imagined them to be horrible, calls I didn’t want to make, things I avoided believing they were complicated or were going to complicate my life, or simply alternatives that by popular myth cause fright just to consider, once I “launch myself” to simply do them or live them, they are never as bad or as horrible as I had imagined them to be.

As Patry, my beloved teacher, always told me: “get it over with” I try and keep her image and words in mind, and although they elude me, every time that I come up against one of these situations and amazingly survive them, I remember them with a smile and I feel that without doubt the next time I will not be as lazy or fearful or face as many obstacles in order to act.

And so today my heresy is: it’s not so bad; nothing is as bad as we think it’s going to be. All these experiences that we avoid are linked to these feelings precisely because we have a lot to learn from them, because they will leave us stronger, because they will make us grow, or at the least, they will liberate us.

Today, then, the invitation is to face up to these seven-headed monsters that only exist in our imagination and to realize nothing is as bad as we had imagined it to be!

Everything is perfect

Everything is perfect | Heresy | Scoop.it
AnaMaria Rivera's insight:

We are conditioned and trained to feel and understand that perfection is a synonym of happiness.  That is to say, we have the "distinction" of perfection associated with "distinctions" and descriptions such as: good, happy, excellent, blessed, wonderful, abundant, heavenly.  Well, perfection is all that and much, much more.

My heresy today intends to build on that distinction of perfection and even make it of adjectives that are not necessarily “good ones”, such as pain, mistake, bad, difficult, sad.  My heresy today is an invitation to contemplate perfection in each event in our lives and the magical Universe we are a part of.

Every step of the way, whether it is a leap toward greatness or a stumble onto the ground, it is the perfect step we needed for our growth.  Each event, person, situation, smile and tear exists because of the perfection that surrounds our lives.  They exist because of us and for us.  Even if we do not understand the reasons that seem difficult to understand because of our conditioning to believe that perfection is only part of what is "positive ".

We therefore have to change those conditioning glasses and allow our view to fill up with colors, the colors of perfection, which include all of them, from coal black to angel white, going through wild violet and sticky pink, all of them, absolutely all the colors in our life are perfect and they all bring us opportunities to expand our soul and rise to the Nirvana that seems so far away when we see and open up to imperfection.

In order to look to the future with the new lens, we have to be there for the perfection of our own present and be there for the perfection of each event, person and circumstance from our past.  We have to look back with eyes of gratitude for each smile and each tear, for each leap and each stumble, and we have to really feel, from the bottom of our being that everything, absolutely everything was perfect, everything is simply perfect and everything will always be perfect, with or without our approval, with or without our understanding it.

After all, what good is it if we do not understand it, if we are not open to it, and we are not there for perfection in our lives.
