CIRCULAR INFORMATIVA Nº1 - PROYECTO “HELPING PETS”

CIRCULAR INFORMATIVA Nº1 - PROYECTO “HELPING PETS” | HELPING PETS | Scoop.it

“Pets for Christmas. Responsible Pet Ownweship”

“Pets for Christmas. Responsible Pet Ownweship” | HELPING PETS | Scoop.it

On Wednesday, December 4th, 2013 , from 8.55 to 9.50 a.m , it took place in the "Sala Dominici" at IES Corralejo (Fuerteventura, Spain) the first didactic briefing in English  as part of the e-Twinning project "Helping Pets",  under the tittle " Pets for Christmas. Responsible Pet Ownership " , aimed at students of 3 ESO A and C , accompanied by the teachers  Virginia Falcón González and Sergio  Betancor Alonso.

In this interesting exposition, given by Ruth L. Blanco Johnson, local veterinary and owner of the ' Veterinary Clinic Corralejo ' and the lovely Annile , representative of " Fuerteventura Dog Rescue" , responsible association for the pound of La Oliva,  students had the opportunity not only to listen but also to interact each other using English as a mean of communication, as well as to learn the basic guidelines for a responsible pet ownership , ranging from the choice of the appropriate pet for each owner by economic availability for food and care, space depending on the size of the pet and the space it requires and you can provide , and the time you can devote this pet to enjoy a high quality of life.

It was given a special attention on compliance with the vaccine schedule and deworming and conducting periodic reviews of the animals trying to raise awareness among students that it is the responsibility of owning a pet was also made , so that they may know that an animal is not a toy and that many of those who are gifted at Christmas to not responsible people end up being abandoned a few months later by their owners for being unable to take care of them .

Through an entertaining PowerPoint presentation,by the representative of the protective association,  students met  individualized histories of some animals rescued by the pound, being showed some pictures of before and after passing through the kennel,  been adopted by not only some national families, but also  from those from other countries .

At the end of the session the students actively participated in a round of questions and doubts and a contest, in which those students who anwerd correctly to some questions done by the speakers were presented with various related pet care items.

Due to nowadays situation , we need to join and raise awareness, starting with young people and adolescents, on the need for responsible pet ownership , calling for voluntary cooperation with this and other foundations and / or protective of the rights of animals organizations.

From our Secondary School (IES Corralejo, Fuerteventura) we want to support and thank the speakers for this activity, to help our students not only to see English as a means of transmission of real and close information, but also to be aware that they have responsibilities not only in school, but also outside of school, in society, as members of a community.

Big Wins for Pit Bulls

Big Wins for Pit Bulls | HELPING PETS | Scoop.it

FiXiT is working to bring an end to animal homelessness, and no other type of dog has a harder time of finding a forever home as pit bull terriers/mixes. These dogs are estimated to make up a third of all euthanasia performed at U.S. animal shelters, because there just aren't enough suitable homes for all of them. It has been our goal to provide special help to lower the number of these doomed dogs on GetYourFix.org
