5 Late-Night Snacking Mistakes Wrecking Your Diet

5 Late-Night Snacking Mistakes Wrecking Your Diet | Helpful Tips | Scoop.it

"After a jam-packed day of eating right, staying active, and other healthy choices, the last thing you want to do is undo all your hard work just minutes before bedtime. Make sure you stay on the right track by avoiding these late-night eating mistakes."

Mistake #1: Going to Sleep Too Full

Going to sleep on a full stomach can cause discomfort and disrupted sleep, which can wreak havoc on your waistline by causing you to hold on to belly fat and eat more. Make sure you eat dinner at least a few hours before bedtime; if you need a snack later on, keep it under 200 calories.

5 Exercises People Hate, but Why You Should Do Them Anyway: Burpees, Planks, Push Ups

5 Exercises People Hate, but Why You Should Do Them Anyway: Burpees, Planks, Push Ups | Helpful Tips | Scoop.it
We really hate to do burpees, planks, push ups and other exercises that really push our limits, but personal trainer Pamela Hernandez tells us why we should love the results these activities deliver.

There are three benefits to hiring a personal trainer. The first is accountability. Having someone waiting on you helps insure you get to the gym. The second is structure. We have enough to think about, letting someone else put together the workout is a huge time saver. The third is having someone who pushes you out of your comfort zone and makes you do the exercises you hate.

Even the most devoted exerciser has at least one exercise they love to hate. We hate it when we’re doing it, but we love the way we feel or look afterwards. I did an informal poll of my clients and came up with the five exercises they love to hate (and why we should all do them anyway).

Nature for Health: Fantastic Homemade Vitamin Water Recipes To detoxify your body (:

Nature for Health: Fantastic Homemade Vitamin Water Recipes To detoxify your body (: | Helpful Tips | Scoop.it

You’ve heard of the commercial product called Vitamin Water, right?

They come in all sorts of colors and flavors, and the producers (a subsidiary of Coca-Cola – ughh!) claim a whole list of health benefits from this magical water. Well, there’s been recent controversy over those claims, so what you’re really left with is essentially an overpriced bottle of colored, sugar water.

Nothing healthy about that. But you know what is healthy?

Making your own at home, of course!

>>Here goes a special recipe:

Ingredients:

1 quart filtered water

1-2 cups fruit/veg (ie: strawberries, oranges, watermelon, cucumber, etc.)

2-3 tablespoons fresh herbs (ie: mint, rosemary, lavender, etc.)

ice

Instructions:

Slice fruit into very thin slices and add to a large pitcher.

Lightly smash them with a wooden spoon to help release their juices.

Gently bruise the herb leaves and add to the pitcher.

Add ice, then fill pitcher with water.Allow to infuse for at least 3-4 hours, or overnight.

Water will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Forget butter!  Olive oil rules and it is healthy for you, in moderation, of course.

From the article:

The reason olive oil is so good for us is because it’s high in mono unsaturated fat, vitamin E, and antioxidants. It contains 120 calories per tablespoon. All edible oils contain about the same amount of calories.

A healthy diet with more whole grains, fruits and vegetables and less meat is best. The Mediterranean food pyramid, which includes olive oil in place of other less healthy fats offers many health benefits.
