25 Weird Breaks for Stress Relief | Work Happy Now | Healthy Living | Scoop.it
When you keep trying to apply the same solutions to old problems all you get is the same results. If you want to develop your emotional strength, you have to be
Catherine Bowen's insight:

I think this article is directed towards an older age group than I am in so not all of the options apply to me. I don't work in an office so I can't do any of this on actual work breaks and I don't think I would want to try any of this at school. I did try a lot of these when I got bored doing homework, like #4,5,11,21 and 24. I didn't find that it made me feel less stressed out but I did enjoy this article more than other articles I've read about reducing stress. Most other articles all say the same thing but this one was different and a lot of the suggestions were weird.

Types of Exercise Programs and Training Workouts

Types of Exercise Programs and Training Workouts | Healthy Living | Scoop.it
Catherine Bowen's insight:

This article was a good reminder of all the different types of exercises people should do. They all have different benefits and people should have all the different types of exercise. This will help me create an exercise program for myself so I don't end up doing all aerobic exercise or only working out one part of the body. The article said that there are a lot of different exercises you can do for each type of exercise.

How to Eat Healthy

How to Eat Healthy | Healthy Living | Scoop.it
There are many popular diets on the market today, but most of them are unhealthy and sometimes even dangerous. This article will explain how to eat a balanced, sustainable diet for life. Adopt a healthy attitude towards food.
Catherine Bowen's insight:

This article had a lot of good tips to think about. The first one stood out to me because I agree that it's good to track eating habits to become more aware of them. Since I've been tracking my eating, I realized that I don't eat as often as I should and that's bad for my metabolism. This article also said to eat slowly, eat breakfast, eat at least 5 times a day, and know how much food your body needs. I thought those were all good tips. The article was more about how to eat than what to eat and it would have been more helpful to me if it included more about what kinds of food to eat.

Recipes, cooking ideas, baking tips, and more from Betty Crocker.com
Catherine Bowen's insight:

The recipe for the chicken and salsa was too spicy for me. I thought I was going to like it because watermelon and mangos are some of my favorite fruits but there was also a jalapeno pepper in the recipe. That made it gross even though I took the seeds out. I didn't really like it the first time I made it, but I think I could make it again without the jalapeno pepper and I probably would like it.

Healthy Mac And Cheese: 11 Super-Tasty Recipes

Healthy Mac And Cheese: 11 Super-Tasty Recipes | Healthy Living | Scoop.it
These nutritious mac and recipes are so amazingly tasty, kids will have no clue they're actually good for them.
Catherine Bowen's insight:

I made two of these recipes because mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods but it's not very healthy; especially the kind that comes from a box. These recipes probably still aren't the healthiest foods I could be eating but my main concern when it comes to eating healthy is getting more fruits and vegetables, and most of these recipes involved vegetables.

The first one I made was the avocado mac and cheese and it was much healthier than the box kind because I used whole grain pasta and avocados, which are a fruit. It tasted a lot different than normal macaroni and cheese, but it was good other than being too spicy because of the pepper jack cheese. If I made it again I would probably use white cheddar instead.

The second one I made was the carrot mac and cheese and I liked it better than the first. Even though I put in a whole pound of carots, I couldn't taste it at all.

10 Ways to Reduce School Stress

10 Ways to Reduce School Stress | Healthy Living | Scoop.it
It's difficult to juggle a job while in college, so that's why it's extremely important to find ways to manage your stress -- especially when papers are due and exams are coming up.
Catherine Bowen's insight:

The ways to reduce stress that this article listed were all pretty obvious and I already knew all of them. It didn't give me any new ideas on how to reduce stress. One thing I found interesting about this article was that eating healthy and exercising were both on there. It was another example of how stress and physical health are related.

13 Mental Health Benefits Of Exercise

13 Mental Health Benefits Of Exercise | Healthy Living | Scoop.it
By Sophia Breene Many people hit the gym or pound the pavement to improve cardiovascular health, build muscle, and of course, get a rockin’ bod, but working out has above-the-neck benefits, too.
Catherine Bowen's insight:

This article was useful to me because I already know about all of the physical benefits of exercise but I hadn't heard of everything in this article. It was also useful because it relates to the part of my project that is learning about how physical and mental health can affect each other. It also gives me more reasons that exercise is good for me. It can improve memory and sleep, reduce depression and anxiety, boost mood and confidence, and reduce the risk of alzheimers.

Cool Summer Berry Soup

Catherine Bowen's insight:

I made this soup and it tasted good but it was a lot like a smoothie. I made it because I was looking for new ways to eat more fruit. Even though I liked it, I don't think I would make it again. It was kind of a lot of work for something that tasted exactly like a smoothie that I can make in  just a couple minutes.
