Lisa Burnham's insight:

Hua Tuo (c. 140–208) was a Chinese surgeon of the 2nd century AD who lived in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. According to the Records of Three Kingdoms (c. AD 270) and the Book of the Later Han (c. AD 430), Hua Tuo performed surgery under general anesthesia using a formula he had developed by mixing wine with a mixture of herbal extracts he called mafeisan. Hua Tuo reportedly used mafeisan in order to induce a state of unconsciousness and partial neuromuscular blockade to perform even major operations such as resection of gangrenous intestines.

Hemp Could Free Us From Oil, Prevent Deforestation, Cure Cancer and It’s Environmentally Friendly – So Why Is It Illegal?

Hemp Could Free Us From Oil, Prevent Deforestation, Cure Cancer and It’s Environmentally Friendly – So Why Is It Illegal? | Healthy Green Living | Scoop.it

Hemp is a tall, beautiful and gracious looking annual plant that can reach heights over twelve feet.

Although hemp (cannabis sativa) and marijuana (cannabis sativa var. indica) come from a similar species of plant, they are very different and confusion has been caused by deliberate misinformation with far reaching effects on socioeconomics as well as on environmental matters.

The reason hemp is illegal is not because of any negative impact to the environment or human health, but exactly the opposite. It is so environmentally friendly, nutritionally and medicinally beneficial, that it provides too many abundant resources which would make it impossible for powerful corporations to compete.

CHARLESTON, W.V.. – February 24, 2014. Today, the West Virginia State House voted to approve a bill authorizing the production, distribution and sale of industrial hemp within the state. The vote was 88-8.

Introduced by Del. Mike Mannypenny (D – Taylor, 49), along with four co-sponsors, HB3011 modifies current state law on industrial hemp “removing the provision that requires an applicant to meet federal requirements concerning the production, distribution and sale of industrial hemp prior to being licensed.”

By removing a requirement for federal permission, the state is asserting its authority to provide authorization for industrial hemp whether the federal government decides to approve or not.

Since the enactment of the unconstitutional federal controlled-substances act in 1970, the Drug Enforcement Agency has prevented the production of hemp within the United States. Many hemp supporters feel that the DEA has been used as an “attack dog” of sorts to prevent competition with major industries where American-grown hemp products would create serious market competition: Cotton, Paper/Lumber, Oil, and others.

Experts count as many as 25,000 uses for industrial hemp, including food, cosmetics, plastics and bio-fuel. The U.S. is currently the world’s #1 importer of hemp fiber for various products, with China and Canada acting as the top two exporters in the world.

This month, President Barack Obama signed a new farm bill into law, which included a provision allowing a handful of states to begin limited research programs growing hemp. The new “hemp amendment”

The 2nd state in a week to vote on nullifying the Federal ban on HEMP!!!! This is like seceeding from the Union, nevver seen in our history before. Maybe Common Sense is catching up with antiquated laws and lobbied politicians?

Hemp makes more sense than anything else going on right now. Saves the environment, eats carbon up, provides jobs for farmers and manufacturers, is the #1 green sustainable, annually renewable natural resource on the planet! ...duh

Legalising hemp for food would realise big benefits for Australia

Legalising hemp for food would realise big benefits for Australia | Healthy Green Living | Scoop.it
Food made from hemp has great potential for Australia’s economy, according to the Complementary Healthcare Council, which is urging the country’s regulators to recognise the plant as a legitimate source of food.

Lisa Burnham's insight:
Why Hemp?

Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug. As a food, Hemp Seed is far more nutritious than soybean, contains more essential fatty acids than any other source, is second only to soybeans in complete protein (but is more digestible by humans), is high in B-vitamins, and is 35% dietary fiber. For our health, hemp has been proven to create miraculous results.

Hemp-to-Biofuels Research Gets Green Light

Hemp-to-Biofuels Research Gets Green Light | Healthy Green Living | Scoop.it

Posted on April 3, 2014 by John Davis

A crop that has had an undeserved stigma attached to it could now become a source for biodiesel and ethanol. The recently passed and signed Farm Bill contains a provision that would allow hemp to be grown for research purposes, including making it into the green fuels.

Lisa Burnham's insight:

Ben said the Farm Bill defined industrial hemp, not to be confused with marijuana despite its similar appearance, as having 3/10 of a percent or less of THC – the active ingredient in the drug. Even if you smoked a hemp joint the size of a telephone pole, Ben said you still wouldn’t get high. But it’s only legal to do the research at universities and state ag departments in the 10 states where hemp is already legal to grow. He’s hoping that positive results in those locations will allow the effort to go nationwide.

A New Non-Dairy Milk Alternative: Hemp Milk

A New Non-Dairy Milk Alternative: Hemp Milk | Healthy Green Living | Scoop.it
Did you know that hemp seed contains more essential fatty acids than any other source? Did you also know that it is second only to soybeans in being a complete protein (although far more digestible for humans)? Hemp milk is a newer addition to your milk choices on the market just over the last two years. It may very well be the best alternative milk choice for the dairy free, but also have an appealing call to others as well, including myself. I originally heard about this product from a reader and began my own research. Come to find out, hemp milk is actually very nutritious for you!

Hemp seeds contain the most balanced and richest natural single source of essential oils for human consumption. The E.F.A.'s not only help to restore wasting bodies, but also improve damaged immune systems, so it is not so surprising that modern researchers have studied them in relationship to the modern immune attacking AIDS virus.
