Are you my daddy?

You can add bumps, ribs, and tingly lotions to condoms to try and get guys to think their awesome. You can put free dispensers in bars and dorms to get them to use them when the moment's right. Or, you can use scare tactics like Brazilian condom brand, Olla, tried to do. Sense of humour required.

Movie 50/50 about cancer, receives great reviews

Movie 50/50 about cancer, receives great reviews | The Health Consumer | Scoop.it

Adam, a producer at an NPR radio station in Seattle, is out for a jog. While waiting for a stoplight to turn green, he reflexively reaches behind him to rub a sore muscle in his back.

But it’s not just a temporary ache. Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) soon learns that he has a rare form of cancer on his spine. His prognosis isn’t great, maybe 50/50 at best. He’ll have to undergo radiation to shrink the tumor and then a risky operation to remove it.

ReThink Breast Cancer: Boobyball stunt | Ads of the World™

ReThink Breast Cancer: Boobyball stunt | Ads of the World™ | The Health Consumer | Scoop.it

Rethink Breast Cancer and their fundraising event, Boobyball needed some serious attention for a budget of about zero. To help get that attention, we used a fitting medium that has never been used before for advertising: women’s breasts. Included in this group of models with headlines on them about the cause are actual breast cancer survivors. People need to talk about breast cancer and this was a way to fuel that conversation. The stunt was on every major news station in Toronto, and in all of the major newspapers. It’s exploding on facebook and twitter as well-in part because of Howie Mandel who was simply walking by. He promptly tweeted the idea to 300,000 people.

Art Director: Gail Pak
Copywriters: Neil Blewett, Freddy Nduna

Managing in an Era of Bioconnectivity

Managing in an Era of Bioconnectivity | The Health Consumer | Scoop.it

Bioconnectivity. It’s the one concept I’ve found that ‘connects the dots’ in the management puzzle created by racing developments in health record systems, the Internet, social networking, remote monitoring, neuroscience, genetics, and more. As the 2009 Institute for Behavioral Health Informatics drew to a close today, I was working hard to place my many new learnings from two days of thoughtleader presentations into a management context. Some of the most striking observations from today’s meeting included (but were certainly not limited to):

The data will see you now- Wired UK | The Health Consumer | Scoop.it

On December 26 2001 an electrical engineer called Christofer Toumazou rushed to see his nine-year-old son Marcus, who had just been taken to hospital. Marcus's kidneys had failed. When Toumazou arrived, Marcus was already on dialysis, connected to a machine that removed excess water and waste from his blood through a catheter in his abdomen. Later, it was found that Marcus suffered from a rare genetic disease that had progressively destroyed his kidneys. Without a transplant, he would have to undergo dialysis every single day to survive.

Blu Cigs Smart Pack Alerts You When Other e-Smokers Are Nearby

Blu Cigs Smart Pack Alerts You When Other e-Smokers Are Nearby | The Health Consumer | Scoop.it

Smoking is a social activity by nature. Total strangers will share their lighters, their cigarettes, and their stories all over the course of a ten minute cigarette break. Even when you start to hate the actual act of smoking, it’s difficult to give up because you get extra breaks during work where you can mingle with co-workers or strangers, and inevitably make friendships. When you’re toking on an e-cig, you’re more or less not welcome.

Thus, the Blu Cigs Smart Pack. Its homing beacon will tell you when there’s another Blu Cigs smoker within a 50-ft radius, or if there’s a nearby retail location. Along with the “social integration,” Blu Cigs also added a few other fun enhancements to the product.

Shout out for Amit Gupta

Shout out for Amit Gupta | The Health Consumer | Scoop.it
Two weeks ago I got a call from my doctor, who I’d gone to see the day before because I’d been feeling worn out and was losing weight, and wasn’t sure why.

He was brief: “Amit, you’ve got Acute Leukemia. You need to enter treatment right away.”

I was terrified. I packed a backpack full of clothes, went to the hospital as he’d instructed, and had transfusions through the night to allow me to take a flight home at 7am the next day. I Googled acute leukemia as I lay in my hospital bed, learning that if it hadn’t been caught, I’d have died within weeks.
