It is illegal in the District of Columbia to drive with a blood alcohol concentration-BAC of .08 or above. The .08 percent limit is the standard measurement used by all states for the impaired driver. Washington DC has a Zero Tolerance for drivers under the age of 21. This means that if you are under the age of 21 you are not allowed to have any measurable alcohol in your system.

First-time offender’s face up to 90 days in prison, a fine of up to $1,000, or both. The offender’s driver’s license will be revoked for at least 30 days. If, however, the offender was driving with a BAC of .20 or more or if a child under 16 was in the vehicle at the time of the offense, the offender may be imprisoned for up to one year and fined up to $3,000.

Unlike most other states, South Dakota does not assign points for speeding violations. But you will still have to pay the fine. Also, insurance companies keep a close watch on traffic violations, even if you’re not assessed any points for them. If you pile up enough violations or even one or two it may be enough to bump you into a higher premium rate.

It is a crime for a driver to have a bloodily alcohol content of .08 or greater if over age 21 or .02 or greater if under 21. In addition, Michigan has a high-BAC law with enhanced penalties for anyone caught driving with a BAC of .17 or higher. Drivers can be arrested at any BAC level if they exhibit signs of impairment while operating a motor vehicle.
