Don't get a job, get a Home Business

My Thoughts:

From this article I learned that I need to pick a job that fits my passions and skills. Far too often in the work place, people choose jobs that are unfit for their qualifications and asperations. That is why the unemployement rate is so low, along with a flawed government. However, if you learn what the employer is looking for when you apply for a job, and if those things match with your skills, you could be on your way to a sucessful career. Also, you need to master the art of networking. If you want to land a job you have to create relationships with people that can help you get to where you want to go. It is truly the best way to land your dream job! People are the gateway to almost anything so you must always establish strong relationships. I hope that I can use these ideas that I have learned to recieve a job working on campus at Western Washington University.

Why tutoring is one of the best part-time jobs for students | USA TODAY College

It may not be easy, but if you genuinely commit and dedicate yourself, you’ll find many rewards

My Thoughts:

I completly agree with this article! One of the points that was brought up in the text was that most college students over look toutoring as a job and instead go for the "main stream" jobs such as retail. However, those students could have flexible working hours if they tutored fellow students, which is important for the busy life of a college student. Also, it mentioned that tutoring looks impressive on a resume which will help you land a job once you are out of school. Finally, the pay that you make as a tutor is likely much greater than a typical part-time job would be. After reading this article I think that I may be interested in being a tutor insead of having a part-time job on campus. It would fit in with my schedule better, I would make more cash, and I could build relationships. I would be crazy not to tutor for money!

How part-time jobs can have a negative impact on a students education - by Suzanne Rose - Helium

How part-time jobs can have a negative impact on a students education - by Suzanne Rose - Helium | Having a Part-Time Job While Attending College | Scoop.it

Does a part-time job have a negative impact on a students education?

My Thoughts:

This article made me think about the negitive side of having a part-time job while attending college. Obviously, there is benefits of having a job such as money and work experience but there is also many negative aspects. First, a part-time job can take away from other studies and cause the student's grades to drop. In addition, if the student is trying to manage school and studies they might become sleep deprived from not having enough time in the day to complete their work. Thus, they are forced to stay up all night. Having a part time job may actually take away from my college education becuase I am not concertrated on work and therefore money is going down the drain instead of coming in from the job. I have to take all of these into consideration before I apply for a part time job while I'm attending college.
