Using Recreational Sport for Social Mobility of Urban Youth: Practices, Challenges and Dilemmas

Using Recreational Sport for Social Mobility of Urban Youth: Practices, Challenges and Dilemmas | USA Gymnastics Success | Scoop.it

Coralie Pereira's insight:

There are in the United States academic scholarship system, unlike other countries. It is dedicated to sporting good and high levels wishing to enter university offering a good curriculum and a welcoming structure to make progress in their sport. It supports university fees, which allows athletes who can not afford large schools to be funded. This partly explains the fact that there are more elite gymnasts in the USA. In France for example, there is no system, and some gymnasts are forced to stop or leave the gymnastics centers due to lack of means. In addition to the scholarship is maintained, recipients must have exemplary behavior at school level, sports and attitude. This system clearly pushes Americans to succeed, and is a wonderful boon for them.

Research and the importance of being the best in American society

Coralie Pereira's insight:

An American is always trying to be the best at what it does: it is a peculiarity of the U.S. system. I seek in vain an article about it. In fact, it looks perfect at its social ascent for goods increasingly large. That is why he wants to be the best or in the sport, at school, or both in order to climb the social ladder. This may explain the fact that there are many American champions in the United States, in the gym, but also in all sports.
