Storytelling - benefits and tips

I feel that this article offers some interesting insight into how storytelling can provide a common link among different cultures and that we should use this link as a way to teach students about their own culture as well as other cultures.  This article also provides useful performance techniques to use when telling a story.

I feel that this website is important for this week's topic because it offers a good deal of useful information about children as storytellers.  It provides a literature review on the intellectual, social and emotional benefits of using storytelling, as well as suggestions on how to begin the process of teaching students/children how to become a good storyteller.  It also gives a list of resources that can be used by adults and students.

I like this website because in the beginning it discusses some of the benefits for oral retelling, but I especially like that it offers a guide line/lesson plans for how to introduce and begin the process of teaching students how to become a good storyteller.  It provides 9 sessions/lessons to help guide your introduction of storytelling and suggests ways to help scaffold the process for students.  It also provides a great list of books that work well for storytelling in the Bibliography at the end.
