Action and violence TV-show

alex aa's insight:

This is a very interesting and worth to watch TV-series for those who love action, supernatural events, vampires, bloody stories, or violation. In summary, Nick (David Giuntoli) is a detective policeman who discovers that he belongs to a sort-of-vampire family bloodline, and here a conflict, inside him, starts between the detective personality and the family line personality which will lead him, with the help of his friend Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), to fight the bad guys, vampires, using both of his powers as a detective and a supernatural power-person. The show stars also include: Capt. Renard's (Sasha Roiz), Eric (James Frain), Juliette's (Bitsie Tulloch), Adalind (Claire Coffee), Rosalee (Bree Turner), Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby), Wu (Reggie Lee ).

The show is all about action, violence, death and bloody scenes. Therefore, the first thing to take in account is that it is not for kids, and, as it is published about the show, it is directed to age 18-49. This is clear after watching three episodes of season 3 which included scenes of violation, killing, and nudity. Also, this fact is reflected by the type of ads-flow which, mostly, opposed the content of the show, but maintained the same audience-age to whom the show is made; for example, while the show included some people getting infected with some kind mushroom-disease to die later, the ads included wellbeing nature messages or high quality life style, like adds about nice cars, healthy food, health care systems, or nice drinks. All of these messages were clearly for adult people who make decent salary enough to buy such cars of order such food.

Other noticeable things include the ads between each two episodes which directed audience to keep watching NBC channel, and this is normal since the channel wants to increase the number of its audience. Another technique used by the end of episode 3, which was discussed in class, is to recommend the next show through a little square pops up at the right, or left, bottom of the screen while watching the show’s cast and other information; this technique encourages audience, as it did with me, to stick on chair and keep watching an episode after another or a show after another which matches with the time of the day and the day, 9 p.m. ET Friday, the show is playing. These techniques used by the channel, probably, are one of the reasons for the increased demand of the show by audience to the limit that the channel started thinking about canceling other related, in story, shows like Dracula.

The main theme of the show relates to violence, or bad situation or health status. This idea is maintained through the three episodes of season 3. Some scenes include very disgusting events, like cutting bodies or exploding bellies which some audience may hate to watch, and here comes a little break of opposing, in nature, ads to fix the mood of such audience. This could be the reason behind why the flow of commercials opposed the contents of the show. Other reason may go a little further; for example, while audience are watching people getting infected then die, others getting killed for a reason or another, or others as a normal family getting back home to face a frightening zombie who tries to kill them all. There comes ads to give an opposed view of well being and a much better lifestyle that is through buying this or that kind of car or adopting a certain healthcare system. Even the ad about the best choice of oil for cars tells audience about the wellbeing of their autos which conveys a message of high quality life style. In other words, the inside message of the TV-flow tells audience about two kinds of living: one is similar to the content of the show, and another is similar to the contents of the ads, and audience, at the end, has the option to decide which to go with.

There are some ads came to match the location where someone may use his/her computer to watch this show. For example, the ads about gaining degree or an education level at a local universitie, like Western Michigan University. Still, these ads were also related to degrees in healthcare field which matches the idea of wellbeing.

The Sci-Fi nature of the TV show, or non reality events of the story, provides entertainment to audience which most people, recently, look for in a show. Most employed people be very exhausted at the end of the week and seek such entertainment, and here where channels like ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox play its rule in providing what people’s need of a story about super natural powers or unusual events.
