Wind energy to power streetlights in city

Wind energy to power streetlights in city | Air Pollution | Scoop.it
AMC’s Standing Committee gives nod to set up two windmills of 2.1 MW each

Via In-Gujarat.Info, Jada Williams
stephanie mckenzie's insight:

I think that if the streetlights are powered my Wind is different but refreshing. I also think that  if it could power streetlights it could power a lot of other things like car meters. I would want that, i would make a joke about how tall they are. I would enjoy looking at how amazing it looks and maybe thinks of ways of what else it could power. I think that maybe it could power car chagers.

Travis Reede's curator insight, September 14, 2015 6:52 PM

I like this article because it uses energy that is clean on something that we all use ever day. The street lights we see at night time can now be powered by a wind turbine. I would like to see that happen today but we all know that it will take time and it will not happen now. But it seems like a cool project that can save the air pollution and could help the people it effect save money on energy.

Altin Pevqeli's curator insight, September 14, 2015 9:49 PM

This is a good idea because it is using a renewable source of energy to power something used in everyday life. The only problem is how much space is needed, and how far away from the city will it be because noise is a big problem with turbines.

Chris Middleton's curator insight, September 14, 2015 10:18 PM

Could have added a video to show where the placements on the turbines might be. good idea but will take up space and will take plenty of money. Wil be a safer way to create energy

stephanie mckenzie's insight:

I would love if my phone lasted this long. i would watch Netflix  for like four days if i had time to. I would be able to do all my research and essaies for my AP classes and would make having time for friends easier. I would aslo think that i could take mad selfies all the time and dont worry if my phones about to die. I think a lot of people would like to have the ability to have battery life like that. I alos think that, for people lost at sea, would make it easier for them to live if they have life pro.

New energy cell can store up solar energy for release at night | Dario Borghino | GizMag.com

New energy cell can store up solar energy for release at night | Dario Borghino | GizMag.com | Air Pollution | Scoop.it

A photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) is a special type of solar cell that gathers the Sun's energy and transforms it into either electricity or chemical energy used to split water and produce hydrogen for use in fuel cells. In an advance that could help this clean energy source play a stronger role within the smart grid, researchers at the University of Texas, Arlington have found a way to store the electricity generated by a PEC cell for extended periods of time and allow electricity to be delivered around the clock.

Currently, the electricity generated by a PEC cell could not be stored effectively, as the electrons would quickly "disappear" into a lower-energy state. This meant that these cells were not a viable solution for a clean-energy grid, as the electricity had to be used very shortly after being produced. That is, on sunny days, at a time when standard PV panels would already be producing energy at full tilt.

Now, researchers Fuqiang Liu and colleagues have created a PEC cell that includes a specially designed photoelectrode (the component that converts incoming photons into electrons).

I think this could replace battery and make it were we won't die from battery aicd. Battery has this cemical in it which can burn through anything and is really hard to disposed of like throwing it away like most people would ruin the evirment and contain water soucres. I think its cool how its slipt water so we could use salt water and maybe after years of study and development, the salt water would be fresh water afterwards. I also think it would develope a new kinda car that runs off of water but it would be hard to sell it. i think this would be hard to sell because it uses water and the need of water out runs the need of energy.

This is an interesting type of fuel cell that uses sunlight to convert the hydrogen in water for energy. It uses both solar energy and electron for around the clock energy production. It's still in its prototype stages but it'll get there eventually.

Samantha Frans's curator insight, September 16, 2015 9:46 PM

to tell the truth the only reason i picked this article was for to cool picture. then i started to read the article and it was really something. when i mean something i mean that its something that i just learned in class today about fuel cells. it is cool that we can also get fuel cells from the sun now and also storage it as well.

This video is a way to explain what is going on in the world for little kids could understand. A great way to change the way things are is to educate the  younger generation. Even for older people, its a easy way to explain air pollution to any age but older people wouldn't be as interested as children would be. I'm pretty sure if you showed my class, we would be making fun of it to the max. I kinda only pick this video cause I thought Charlie Brown was going to be in it .

#FF #Russia Gas Stations Ordered to Provide Chargers for Electric Cars #renewables #climate | Air Pollution | Scoop.it
Gas stations all across Russia have been ordered to adapt their facilities to provide chargers for the country's electric vehicles — which number just a few hundred in total.

Via Jada Williams
stephanie mckenzie's insight:

With Russia being a huge country, it makes a huge impact. It would make or at least make a start, on a clean eniroment there and an example around the would.  I also think it would make people of Russia think of having electrical cars. I think that would make going through the vast land of snow and nothing a little easier. I also think that if Russica can do it so can the world like China. China would probably have the biggest impact.

James Song's curator insight, September 14, 2015 10:59 AM

In Russia, there are gas stations that charges cars instead of gas. I think this is a great way to save gas and save the environment. There are few hundreds of them all over Russia. The question is, how much would it cost? would it be cheaper or would it be more expensive?  The world would change in a great way if almost every singe gas station had a charger that charges cars instead of gas.

Travis Reede's curator insight, September 14, 2015 11:01 AM

I like the idea of having charging stations for electric cars. having charging ports will be better for people who have electric cars instead of using unleaded fuel. But this is only in Russia but it also needs to start happening in the United States.

Jada Williams's curator insight, September 14, 2015 11:10 AM

In Russia they are putting chargers for the electrical vehicles. All gas companies are required to have these chargers at their gas station by 2016. Since the Japanese Mitsubishi company sold russia the eletric cars. There will be almost 100 electric car chargers.

A new patent recorded by Apple provides an insight at the company's enthusiasm for a technology that uses fuel cells to control its devices.

stephanie mckenzie's insight:

I tink having a cumputer or phone lasting for a week would be amazing because it would reduce the energy we use on charging these devices. I also think that it would make gamers of the work happy because now they can game nonstop for a week instead of having to stop every 5-10 hours to charge the computer. I think the proucting of anythign would increase because people could stay up all night working or even all week without worring about heir cumputer shuting off. I know it wpould help students because im not going to lie i forget all the time to save my essay than the cumputer shuts off. I think its the start of something huge.

Aaliyah Billinger's curator insight, September 14, 2015 10:36 AM

My insight is apple uses fuel cells to control their devices, to make the battery last way longer. Also in magsafe connector used in their laptops. they are trying to see if the can use it on MacBook's. fuel cells can generate electricity while producing a small amount of heat and water vapor in the process.

Jada Williams's curator insight, September 14, 2015 10:58 AM

The way Apple's battery life goes this will help extremely. Especially when it comes to going places for a long period of time. These fuel cells will help with business for you and Apple itself.

Bryan "Sandstorm" Cepeda's curator insight, September 14, 2015 11:23 AM

Personal I Don't like apple products. But this is a good thing so less electricity will be used for making it.

About Us - SolarWindow | Air Pollution | Scoop.it
stephanie mckenzie's insight:

I think this would be a really good resoucre because it doesn't need people to change their lifes or made an inconvinces. People just need to get new windows and it just pays for itself. People just kinda want an energy soucre thats easy, cheap, and doesn't require a lot pof work because people love having money and energy to do stuff like playing xbox or charging your computer. I think if the US changes all the windows to Solor Windows than the energy crisies would be over. People could even sell to other countries who can't make as much energy and are still developing countries.  I would so want this in my house for the right price or even for a hgih one because it would pay off.
