Vestas (Denmark) will build 5 wind farms in Turkey (207MW), in a joint venture with German utility EnBW and Turkish Borusan.

 

As discussed before on Greenzone.co, the Turkish market is becoming a hotbed for new wind power projects. 

 

The deal is the largest customer framework agreement in the Turkish wind power market ever.

According to the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW), 1,346,528 renewable power installations were generating energy in Germany in 2012.  In terms of installation numbers, solar power leads the pack; 1,303,219 plants, followed by 22,198 onshore wind power plants and 13,099 biomass power plants. Although biomass only accounts for 8.1 % of the installed capacity, its share in the renewable electricity production was more than three times higher (26.3%).

“If we can get liquid-metal batteries down to $500 a kilowatt-hour, we’ll change the world," Donald Sadoway from Ambri says. 


The Boston-area start-up aims to develop liquid-metal batteries that will store power for less than $500 a kilowatt-hour.


That’s less than a third the cost of some current battery technologies.

 

Collecting and storing energy from the grid currently costs about $1,500 a kilowatt-hour.

 

Ambri recently won a $250,000 grant from New York state to develop and test a prototype battery, and is backed by Bill Gates.
