malek's curator insight, December 5, 2014 7:00 PM

Requiring a female to undergo a virginity test is widely seen as harmful, especially when it is performed on behalf of a government. The practice is seen as sexist, perpetuating the notion that sexual intercourse outside of marriage is acceptable for men, but not for rwomen, and suggesting that women's sexual activity should be subject to public knowledge and criticism, while men's should not.

Charla de Pleasure's curator insight, October 29, 2014 11:32 PM

This poem really encapsulates the struggles of women in color in trying to fit in with white feminism and discovering that unless women of all races, ethnicities, and identities work together, their feminism means nothing. It also is a powerful example of how white women can be feminists without being white feminists.
