The Most Beautiful Thing (Short Film) - YouTube

Winner of the LACHSA 2012 Moon Dance Best Film Award, and Best Actor Award. Written, directed and edited by Cameron Covell, this short film, starring Nick Lo...
Afreen Syed's insight:

“The Most Beautiful Thing” is a short film. In this film is a boy who goes unnoticed by the world. He has always felt isolated from his classmates. After seeing a poster, he realizes that prom is coming up and he doesn’t have a date. He tries to get the attention of some girls but none of them acknowledge his existence. One day a pretty girl sits beside him. He gathers the courage to say hello, however, like all the other girls, she doesn’t acknowledge his existence either. He starts to give up when suddenly the girl turns to face him. She shows him that she is deaf and they both start to bond over the little things. The boy, Brandon, starts to fall for her despite her differences, and goes to ask her to prom. However, he arrives at a bad time and watches an unknown guy kiss Emily. He gives up and starts to break off his ties with her. One moment in the hallway they come face to face and he turns around to walk away from her, when suddenly she calls out to him, even though she wrote to him saying that she will not speak in front of people because she is afraid that they will laugh. He asks her to prom, ending the short film on a positive note.

This short film relates to the concept of Christ-like love not being repulsed by illness or ugliness. Upon discovering her deafness, Brandon does not treat Emily any differently and does not discriminate or have prejudice towards her. He seems generally pleased to meet her and is not intimidated by her condition. This film also relates to the Christian Perspective of not requiring her to change to be accepted. When Emily tells Brandon about her fear of speaking publicly because people will laugh, he does not push her to speak; instead, he shows support by writing that he would never laugh. This also shows the Christian Perspective of respecting the dignity, values and needs of all those involved. Brandon demonstrates this character trait when he does not bring up the subject of speaking again because he understands how Emily truly feels and respects her decisions. The short film also relates to Christ-like love not just being an emotion, but also a decision. Emily puts her heart out there by speaking, for what may have been, the first time to an outsider. She gives Brandon a piece of her and doesn’t worry about it going unnoticed. Both Emily and Brandon bring out the best in each other.

It is important of people to watch this video because it teaches us to respect others no matter their differences. It teaches us that we all are equal and we can all be loved. This film gives people who might feel alone, hope. The story states that one act of courage could result in many joys. Brandon was brave enough to speak to Emily and he did not falter when he learned that she is blind. This shows equality and the ability to accept each other no matter what. By these teachings, it could be the potential end to bullying. If more people/teens watched this video there would be less bullying after the realization that we are all equal and no one is alone. We all want to be liked, we all want to be accepted, however, no one is willing to take the high road in matters like this. They see someone in distress but choose to turn their heads. This video teaches us to reach out to someone who might need it because there is no harm in doing so. You might actually save someone's life.

Homeless Lottery Winner - YouTube

Afreen Syed's insight:

"Homeless Lottery Winner" is a short film that shows a guy (Rahat) giving a lottery ticket to a homeless guy named, Eric. Rahat had heard many stories about Eric being a wonderful person. He then bought a losing lottery ticket from the clerk, who was in on the act of kindness, and presented it as a real one. Therefore, when Eric went in to get the ticket cashed, they gave him $1000. However, Eric wanted to share the money he had "won" with Rahat because he felt so extremely grateful and he felt that he only deserved half the amount. Tears had started to escape Eric's eyes as the two hugged because he was getting a second chance.

This video shows us examples of Christ-like love. Eric demonstrates that Christ-like love is not an emotion, it is also a decision. The homeless man is not aware that he is being filmed, however, he still decides to share the money he is gifted with Rahat. Eric also demonstrates the Beatiudes blessed are the poor in spirit, and blessed are the meek. He demonstrates poor in spirit because he is willing to admit he needs the help of others and comes with Rahat to cash in the lottery ticket. Eric also demonstrate meekness because he does not try not forcefully get his way and is grateful no matter what amount he receives. Rahat demonstrates the Beatitudes blessed are those who mourn, and blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. He demonstrates blessed are those who mourn because he has compassion and empathy for Eric. He does not enjoy seeing Eric or any other to suffer. Rahat also shows blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness because he is standing up for what is right and for people like Eric, who are mistreated. By giving Eric money, Rahat is giving Eric a second chance.

It is important for teens to watch this video because they are next in line to change the world, and videos like this will push them to do just that. We value things differently in our life, such as family and our love life, our purpose in life, but most importantly, our meaning of earnings. This one clip highlights the importance of empathy and how empathetic actions advance our connections. It was Eric's attempt to share the earnings that stands out in this video, and it's important that people realize that Eric is not just some homeless man, but he is a human, and all we've ever needed to be is just human.

Paralyzed Teen's Modeling Dream Comes True – Her Inspiring Story

Paralyzed Teen's Modeling Dream Comes True – Her Inspiring Story | Grade Nine Religion Semester 2 | Scoop.it
Mackenzie Clare was on a prom date with her boyfriend in Leesburg, Virginia, when she received the surprise of a lifetime
Afreen Syed's insight:

This article is about a nineteen-year-old girl's dreams coming true. Mackenzie Clare had always dreamed of becoming a model, however, when she was ten she suffered paralysis from the chest down due to a careless driver hitting her family's car. One night, on a prom date with her boyfriend, a photographer named Kerri Lane approached Mackenzie. When Kerri walked over to introduce herself, she noticed that Mackenzie was in a wheelchair. However, this didn’t stop Kerri. She believed that Mackenzie had a real chance and wanted to make her dreams come true. Mackenzie often said to her mother, “nobody is ever going to want me to be a model. I'm in a wheelchair and I can't do all the things models need to do,” but now her dreams are becoming a reality. Kerri Lane is trying to pursue higher goals for Mackenzie Clare.

In this article, Mackenzie Clare shows the Christian perspective of being strong in good times and bad. She had gone through much as a young girl but still was able to stay strong through her difficulties and have the courage to wake up every morning. Kerri Lane shows the Christ like love of not being repulsed by illness or ugliness. She does not treat Mackenzie any differently because of her condition because she knows that everyone is equal. She does not discriminate or have prejudice towards Mackenzie. Kerri also shows the Christian perspective of not requiring Mackenzie to change to be accepted. She also gives Mackenzie the spiritual virtue of hope by allowing her to model and letting Mackenzie’s dreams come true.

Reading this article helps people to understand that anything is possible. Sometimes people think that there is no hope, however, by reading the article you understand that every dark tunnel must come to an end. Majority of us choose to look at the world through negative eyes, we begin to hate the world, but someone always has it worse. If Mackenzie Clare can have hope then so can we. This article teaches us to stay strong in good times and bad.
