Search for missing Wis. students after Stone Arch Bridge jump | Gov&Law President | Scoop.it
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is searching for two people who reportedly jumped off of the Stone Arch Bridge into the Mississippi River early Tuesday morning.
Andrea Pastorino's insight:

This article made me really sad. It's about two teenagers who decided to jump from a bridge; thay though it would have been fun, but they died tragically and their bodies are yet to be found. Now their wholo community is crying its lost and it really reminds me of the events at the beginning of the year

Mississippi Supreme Court blocks scheduled execution | Gov&Law President | Scoop.it
The Mississippi Supreme Court has indefinitely delayed Tuesday evening's scheduled execution of an inmate convicted of the 1992 slayings of two college students.
Andrea Pastorino's insight:

This article is a little old but it deals with a very important decision taken by the supreme court. In fact, they prevent an execution from happening. This man already spent 21 years in prison, and they are not even sure that he's actually guilty. Way to go, Supreme Court!

This is going to be a very interesting case. On one side there is a crazy, young guy who's charged of the Boston bombing and all its consequences. On the other side there are millions of people who want justice. I really hope his lawyer will be able to pursuade the jury to avoid the death penalty and put him in prison for the rest of his life.

Obama Fires Blanks in First Test of Second Term Clout | Gov&Law President | Scoop.it
An angry President Obama vented his frustrations with Congress after several of his fellow Democrats helped block gun-control legislation in the Senate.
Andrea Pastorino's insight:

It is very interesting to see the trusting issues that Obama's facing. People from his party, Democrats, suddenly stopped supporting him; they picked the worst moment, voting against his gun-control bill. He seems to have lost some of his popularity among the people and his power is decreasing. He needs to find a solution and he needs to find it soon

Very interesting video about how things are now and how they could become soon. They are honest enough to admit that our world is not going toward a de-nuclearisation and every powerful country in the world is getting more and more technologic and scary weapons. They also agree that the North Korea does not represent a real threat at the moment but some peaceful policies should be adopted to prevent the problem to spread and become bigger in the future

Are gun control advocates focusing on the wrong things? | Gov&Law President | Scoop.it
President Obama makes his second trip to Connecticut Monday since the Sandy Hook massacre, delivering a speech in Hartford - where he is expected to be joined by Newtown families.
Andrea Pastorino's insight:

I really really like Sen. Blumenthal points about gun control. He speaks clearly and without hesitations and he really seems to believe in what he's saying. He says they are trying to ban those weapons that have been projected for a military use; they have no other purpose than killing and they really can't be used as hunting or recreational guns. He also says that the ban it's important as an attempt to reduce the gun violence in the U.S and stop the the illegal trade of stolen guns.

He says that they are also working on the mental health's issue, even if there is less drama and information about it.

Michael Chmielewski's comment, April 14, 2013 10:11 AM
I don't really agree with completely banning the weapons. These weapons DO have use. They might not be the best for hunting, but they are still fun to shoot. We already have laws for where it is legal to shoot guns like this. Shooting is a hobby of mine, and I could not imagine how much fun it would be to shoot an assault rifle! Don't ban these guns, just adjust the laws.

The journalist is clearly against the gun ban and the service is conditionated by that. It is however unbelievable that a person who's fighting for something in which she believes and she's representing milions of citizens doesn't really know of what she's talking about. She made a even bigger mistake because she brought that argument as her strong point in the discussion. This episode may seriously compromise the Gun's Ban campaign.

Washington (CNN) - The beleaguered Republican Party put into writing Monday what many of its top strategists and leaders have been saying since last year's election losses: The GOP is too old, too white, and too insular to win national contests.

I appreciate how this member of the Republicans admits that they need to change and renew in order to be closer to the people. The title is emblematic: Party too old, too white. There have been a lot more terrorist attacks on the US than I can remember! I didn't know there were so many. It is interesting how the emergency workers can help prevent these horrible actions from happening too often. If the terrorists from the Boston Marathon got these ideas from al Qaeda, I would be scared because they could start up another group of terrorists, just like al Qaeda. This would lead to a lot more attacks on the US.

Andrea Pastorino's insight:

It is interesting to see the difference in the lifestyle of politicians belonging to different parties. It is remarkable that way more Republicans own weapons, so they obviously tend to vote against the gun ban. There are exceptions though as Keith Ellison, a Democrat from a Minnesota. “I am a gun owner, and I believe in common-sense gun-safety rules.” I think this should be the basic statement for any gun law.
