Experts disagree over extradition for Amanda Knox

Experts disagree over extradition for Amanda Knox | Gov and Law Constitutions | Scoop.it
Experts disagreed Tuesday over whether Amanda Knox is likely to be extradited to Italy to be retried for murder.
Ben Johnson's insight:

If they had enough evidence for the trial and enough witnesses, then why would there be arguments on this? I think that everything has been discovered, and should be appointed as says.

A Los Angeles man who spent 19 years in prison for murders he did not commit will be able to sue the LAPD, a panel of the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled Monday.Harold C. Hall should be...
Ben Johnson's insight:

This man literally threw 19 years of his life away.. and I think that he has every right, and I completely agree with his choice if he did in fact deside to sue, nobody should go to PRISON unless they are fully and 100% POSITIVE that they know the person is guilty.

State Laws on Gay Marriage Lead to Disparities

State Laws on Gay Marriage Lead to Disparities | Gov and Law Constitutions | Scoop.it
Now that nine states and the District of Columbia permit same-sex marriage, the borders and sharp disparities among states are a more complex issue for gay couples.
Ben Johnson's insight:

Personally I feel as though "love" is love and no matter what sex, the same or different, it should not matter. If someone wants to be married and share their life with someone who happens to be the same sex then I feel like it should just be ok and nobody should be able to say its not.

Great story Ben, very timely, too! The Supreme Court is set to rule this year on Califorrnia's Prop 8, which banned same sex marriage.
Riley Hanson's comment, March 7, 2013 9:19 AM
Ben i agree with you... having same sex marriage is just the same as having opposite sex marriage. They are people to, and they deserve to be happy to. They can't tell who and who they cant love.
Jordyn Prouty's comment, March 8, 2013 11:01 AM
Ben I agree, there is nothing wrong with same sex mariage. I have no idea why people make such a bad deal out of it. Seriously let them be who they want to be with. They have their own choices and opinions.

No sense of urgency: Rocky road ahead for gun legislation in the House | Gov and Law Constitutions | Scoop.it
As the Senate cleared the way for consideration of gun control measures for the first time in nearly 20 years, the path ahead for any gun control measure in the Republican-led House of Representatives is rocky and uncertain.
Ben Johnson's insight:

I dont feel as though it is a problem that they are hesitant on banning guns right away, then again I don't really blame the people who lost loved ones in connneticut who want it to be done quickly. But it is a big deal and not something that can be dealt with instantly.

Arguments for pretrial release found to be 'unquestionably inappropriate' | The Indiana Lawyer | Gov and Law Constitutions | Scoop.it
Ben Johnson's insight:

This one I thought was pretty messed up.. but I think that if they have enough to prove besides a little blood splat on his shirt.. that he should be kept in the jail until his official court sentence. Murder is a little different especially if the person actually committed a crime as serious as murder.

Riley Hanson's comment, March 14, 2013 1:42 PM
they should have more evidence besides that splat of blood, because that could be the victims and not the suspects, even if it were the suspects blood, they would have the DNA but they should always have more evidence, in case that proof isn't good enough.
Riley Hanson's comment, March 14, 2013 1:43 PM

For Detroit, a Crisis Born of Bad Decisions and False Hope | Gov and Law Constitutions | Scoop.it
Mandatory financial oversight has come as a result of millions in uncollected fees, a flight of the city’s affluent tax base and hopes that downturns might melt away.

I think that instead of stating the fact that they are "under" money wise, they should just fix that, by growing responsability and taking action to get the debts they off paid off, and then they wouldnt have to protest.

Nothing stops a bullet like a job | Gov and Law Constitutions | Scoop.it
Van Jones says of course we need gun control. But we also must face that a lot of violence is linked to economic desperation and despair.
Ben Johnson's insight:

Personly, I feel as though the whole banning guns thing is not a fair thing. Some people carry guns for protection, because you never know what could happen, or like if someone breaks into your house? What are you suppose to do to protect yourself if you are not allowed to hold a fire arm...

I think banning guns especially assault riffles would be a good thing, unfortunately it can't happen because they can't take away the right to bare arms.
Riley Hanson's curator insight, February 27, 2013 6:38 PM

Banning guns to me would be a really good tihng, but unfortunately i know they cannot take away the right to bare arms.  I think there should be something done about gun control!!!

MsHaeussinger's comment, February 27, 2013 6:44 PM
While the government cannot take away 2nd Amendment rights without re-amending the Constitution, they are able to limit it with laws.
