Depuis la crise de 2008, le phénomène du landgrabbing – l’accaparement de terres dans les pays en développement – a pris de l’ampleur, surtout à cause de l’intérêt de plus en plus marqué du secteur financier pour les investissements agricoles.

Les terres fertiles font désormais partie des portefeuilles d’investissement et hedge founds proposés par les banques. Ces achats peuvent être purement spéculatifs, dans l’attente d’une augmentation de la valeur des terrains. Ou l’acheteur investit pour tirer profit d’une production agricole.

Dans une récente interpellation, la conseillère nationale verte Maya Graf demande que la Suisse prenne des mesures pour limiter ce genre de pratiques. La Suisse en tant qu’Etat ne participe pas directement à cet accaparement. Mais elle abrite de nombreuses sociétés actives dans ce domaine.
