There's No Such Thing as a Requirement - its-all-design.com

There's No Such Thing as a Requirement - its-all-design.com | Getting Savvy with FileMaker Pro | Scoop.it
In this article I explain why the requirements-versus-design debate is a red herring: there's no such thing as a requirement.
SavvyData's insight:

This article's position is logically true and philosophically more empowering. Personally I feel I deliver much more value as a BA when I question an organization's "requirements." Q&A: MAYA Design’s Mickey McManus on Taming Complexity in A Hyper-Connected World

Q&A: MAYA Design’s Mickey McManus on Taming Complexity in A Hyper-Connected World | Getting Savvy with FileMaker Pro | Scoop.it

"In their new book, Trillions, the authors coin the term “Age of Trillions” (our near-future) in which trillions of inter-connected computers will saturate us with information as never before. In this age of massive connectivity we will literally coexist with information in real time."

SavvyData's insight:

The "Trillions" authors know how to tame complexity — and they have walked their talk. Their body of work is impressive, including no less than DARPA's "Command Post of the Future." The conceptual gems in this article provide a roadmap for any long-term solution to data-intensive problems: modularity, hierarchy, mutualism, redundancy and generativity. A complex world is rushing head-on at us, and this book conveys the best coping strategy I've seen. Seriously, you owe it to your future sanity to check it out!

SavvyData's insight:
Ah, human visual perception — especially the pre-attentive kind where you can't help but notice — is a wily topic for many database artisans. Here's a requisite summary of what we know about the receiving side of what we data visualists create. Spoiler alert: there are surprises about which viz types are effective (or not).

SavvyData's insight:
