Why are asylum seekers fleeing to Australia by boats, knowing all to well, that they don't have a good chance of either making it to the Australian mainland alive, or actually being accepted into the country if they do?

 

Is Australian law, regarding the numbers of refugees we are willing to let into the country annually, fare? Should Australia be letting more in, and would it decrease the number of people trying to enter illegally on these dangerous boats?
