In 2003, war broke out in Darfur, the westernmost province of Sudan. It started when two groups in Darfur rebelled against the government of Sudan, claiming it had discriminated against Darfur's Muslim African ethnic groups and had favored its Muslim Arab ethnic groups. The government of Sudan responded by organizing militias to crush the Darfur rebels. Since that fighting broke out, violence in Darfur has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and displaced more than 2.5 million people from their homes...
