MY PERSONAL EVALUATION

My personal evaluation
Fan Fan's insight:

Genetic testing can not only diagnose the disease, but also can  be used for the prediction of disease risk. Disease diagnosis using gene detection technology detects mutant gene cause hereditary diseases. Currently, the most widely used genetic testing newborn genetic disease detection, diagnosis of genetic diseases and some common secondary diagnosis.

When do the screening, firstly take out examinee's DNA from blood, body liquid, etc. Then use prames and PCR to copy this part of DNA to dentify the mutation in the gene may exist copied many times, with a special marker the mutant gene probe method, enzyme digestion, gene sequence detection method to determine whether or not this portion of the gene mutation or sensitive genotype.

Even this technology is very useful, there still some disadvantage.

People who do not receive adequate information or counseling about the limitations of genetic testing may falsely assume that a negative test result eliminates their risk for developing a disease. Many genetic tests check for the most common gene mutations responsible for a disease, but do not rule out the possibility of a person developing that disease

So,people cannot understand the results exactly mean when they do the screening. That make lot of people upset and afaid to give birth a baby. This issue for some western country which population is decreasing is very serious. So,if we want to use this technology better or broded it's utilize, govermant should pay more attention about the propaganda about Genetic Screening.I think this point is more important than research the technology. At least as important as it.

What my view of the genetic screening is that  this technology is very useful, but must careful and good use about it.When someone tend to do this exam,he or she must know the background knowledge and what the results mean. This provide we can get the right message from the test result. If citizen can understand this technology very well,I think it must be very useful since it can reduce the peosentage of birth defect. This point can aviod tragedy happen. As well as many technology, risky and advantage should exist same time.

Week 18: Was genetic screening worth the worry? | BabyCenter Blog | Genetic screening Fan | Scoop.it
The panic set in last Friday afternoon. At 5 o'clock, I answered the phone and was met with a recorded message confirming an appointment at the hospital where I had completed my genetic testing. I never scheduled this ...

Is the genetic screening worthwhile or not?.

Fan Fan's insight:

This technology exactly help us and have a great contribution to reduce the percentage of the ability. On the other hand,it may harm the embryos. In this research, there is a discusses about this issue. Here is a women talk about her own experience, and i think she think the genetic's risky is more than the benefit. But for my pionion,it's half and half.Sometimes it's really can help us but sometimes hurt.We must consider this problem objective

Disadvantages Of Genetic Testing. Due to recent discoveries of new genes and the development of new testing methodologies, the availability of genetic testing has increased dramatically.
Fan Fan's insight:

Even this technology is very useful and popular currently,it still have some disadvantage. This reaserch talk about this point. It noticed that sometimes, the result real mening is misunderstanding by examinee. It always make them upset.

December 7, 2012 — Gene testing is more effective than traditional prenatal testing at revealing fetal abnormalities and identifying the causes of stillbirths, according to a pair of studies published on Thursday in the New England Journal of ...

This reasearch shows that the genetic screening can found some abnormalities which traditional method cannot found. This may be the major reason why this technology very popular even there are some research shows genetic screening have some risk. That's every coin has tow side. The benefit more than harmful?or less than?Idea vary from person to person

This is a really interesting piece of technology. The implications of being able to screen for genetic disease would make a huge difference in society. However to do this it must be done through in-vitro fertilization which is an incredibly expensive to start with. Many people would not be able to afford this making it inaccessible to the general public. Is it possible that there could be a way to screen effectively without in-vitro needed in the process.
