Amazon's Jeff Bezos Buys Washington Post Newspaper

Amazon's Jeff Bezos Buys Washington Post Newspaper | Global Technology News | Scoop.it
suresh mari's insight:

Amazon CEO Jeffrey Bezos is buying The Washington Post newspaper, which broke the Watergate scandal and drove a president out of office, and its affiliated publications for $250 million.

The sale ends the Graham family's ownership of the flagship newspaper of The Washington Post Company (NYSE: WPO), which will change to a new name and continue as a publicly traded company.

"Everyone at the Post Company and everyone in our family has always been proud of The Washington Post — of the newspaper we publish and of the people who write and produce it," Donald E. Graham, chairman and CEO of The Washington Post Company, said in a statement. "I, along with Katharine Weymouth and our board of directors, decided to sell only after years of familiar newspaper-industry challenges made us wonder if there might be another owner who would be better for the Post (after a transaction that would be in the best interest of our shareholders). Jeff Bezos' proven technology and business genius, his long-term approach and his personal decency make him a uniquely good new owner for the Post."

suresh mari's insight:

Combining biological components, such as cells and tissues, with soft robotics can enable the fabrication of biological machines with the ability to sense, process signals, and produce force.

Engineers at the University of Illinois are working on developing a Bio-Robot which can be produced easily by using 3D printing technology.

They developed similar bio-bots few years back itself. But that time they used heart cell.

Now they find a way to use muscle cells to gain more control.

The frequency of the electric field determines the speed of this bio-bot .

This muscle-powered biobots will improve the soft biorobotic systems which can be used in drug screening, programmable tissue engineering, drug delivery, and biomimetic machine design.

Geometric design and material properties of the hydrogel bio-bots were optimized using stereolithographic 3D printing.
