GROWING WITH GOD in my GARDEN: An Abundance of Flowers

GROWING WITH GOD in my GARDEN: An Abundance of Flowers | Gardening as a Passion | Scoop.it

An Abundance of Flowers

Things are starting to look up.

Buds and blossoms are quickly gathering, like soldiers to a confrontation - sneaking in, amassing in secret, and springing up with a party-call of "Surprise!" resounding on the winsome wind.

Before long, there will be an abundance of flowers! The bees won't just be 'wanna-bees' - they will have a plethora of possibilities after scrounging and competing for every last pinprick of pollen. For the last few weeks it has been slim pickings - but that is about to change dramatically!

I can definitely echo the prophet Isaiah....

"The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses. Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy!" Isaiah 35:1b-2a NLT

That's just what spring in the garden feels like - with the flowers come the songs and the rejoicing! The sun feels so good on my skin. The world looks like a dramatically different place today - and each successive day brings an abundance of changes. Plants which were only a few inches high a few days ago are growing several inches per day and many are putting out buds already! Once the garden awakens, there is no stopping her magnificent calling!

And you know - once God begins to work in your life, there is no stopping His amazing progress, either!

Some seasons of your life, you will lie dormant, and see very little change from one day to the next, or one week or month to the next. And then, suddenly - it is spiritual springtime, and the growth is hand over fist, so fast that you almost can't keep up with the blur! Then it settles into the modest coasting of summer, and fruit is ready for the picking. And then, you have a slower season, so that you can process what has happened in the interim. Each season brings what it does best - and one isn't 'better' than the others - they just are what they are.

Wherever you are in your faith journey, whatever phase your heart's garden is in, remember - your Master Gardener, being in charge, will continue His work in your heart, and His purposes are to bring about your very best.

An abundance of flowers....

GROWING WITH GOD in my GARDEN: Buds of Promise

GROWING WITH GOD in my GARDEN: Buds of Promise | Gardening as a Passion | Scoop.it

Buds of Promise

Buds.

There are buds everywhere.

Buds are a 'not yet'. They are waiting for dessert because the main course isn't over. They are sitting though dull speeches to get to the awards Presentations. They are the dusk before the dawn. They are surprises wrapped in velvet, gifts under the tree that must wait until Christmas morning.

And still, they are more -a ring box hidden away in a drawer, subject to plans and dreams and that magical moment. A vow made in white before God and these witnesses. A swelling abdomen decorating the nursery. A child's backseat, "Are we there yet?" A teenager anticipating sweet 16 and that glorious driver's license. A deathbed drama where spirit struggles to fly free...

Buds are a signal that something new is on the horizon, something beautiful and alive and full of promise. Buds are hope. Buds are a guarantee that growth will seed itself, springtime and harvest, until the earth wears away.

And these buds of promise are everywhere - plants, grasses, trees, flowers all cry out for their potential to be noticed. Appreciated. Honoured. Celebrated. Like a young child, they cry out, "Look! Watch me! See what I can do?" as they swing high on a swing, craving Mommy's attention and admiration.

Are there any buds of promise in your life? What is your heart struggling to give birth to?

Hope is crucial for our heart's success. Job in his troubles struggled to get his head around his horrible circumstances. How he wrestled with the tough questions that life had thrown at him!

"Even a tree has more hope! If it is cut down, it will sprout again and grow new branches. Though its roots have grown old in the earth and its stump decays, at the scent of water it will bud and sprout again like a new seedling." Job 14:7-9 NLT

He didn't know his end from his beginning. He didn't know - yet - that he was the old stump that was waiting, waiting, waiting for new buds of promise...

Friend, are you waiting today? Are you growing tired of the waiting?

Buds of promise are often slow in showing themselves. The winter waiting season can get so long.

But look around you! See the buds of promise glued along every branch, every stem. This season of 'not yet' is trying, I know. But before birth comes labour - and you don't need to ask any mother if her child of promise is worth that effort...

So I join you in this waiting game, knowing full well that the buds developing will open into astonishingly beautiful blooms - when the time is right. This is where you and I can practice this challenge called faith. This is where you and I can learn to let go and allow our Master Gardener to go to work.

Nurture those buds of promise. They'll open soon...
