Rafflesia arnoldii (corpse flower) | Garden | Scoop.it

A rare, parasitic, rootless and leafless southeast Asian plant, Rafflesia arnoldii is the largest known flower in the world.

Rafflesia arnoldiionly becomes visible when its plump buds emerge through the bark of its host and develop into the large, fleshy flowers which are pollinated by carrion-flies.

Succulents and Cacti – it’s easier than you think!

Succulents and Cacti – it’s easier than you think! | Garden | Scoop.it

Cacti and succulents often seem intimidating, but they are actually forgiving plants that respond to a gardener’s attentions by multiplying freely (succulents) or bursting into bloom (cacti).  Because they require little water, succulents are a great choice for rooftop gardens.

Follow the photo link to discover the benefits of, and instructions for, planting succulent gardens.

PVC Strawberry Planter

PVC Strawberry Planter | Garden | Scoop.it

What are the advantages of this system? The most obvious is the ability to grow many plants in a small space. It’s an interesting way to maximize the production of a small garden, or to grow strawberries on a deck or balcony.

But there are other advantages. Since the plants are off the ground, you’ll be able to grow very clean, very high-quality berries. Disease problems can be minimized with the off-the-ground approach, particularly in a greenhouse where constant airflow is provided.

Follow the photo-link to find out how to make your own strawberry tower.
