AI and quantum algorithms together can compute a better world

Quantum computers are very similar to the computers in households today — only much more powerful. In the example of the Internet of Things (IoT), where billions of devices are constantly connected, we are inundated with data. Adobe updates Experience Manager for fast, multi-channel content delivery

Adobe has updated Experience Manager, its tool for publishing and managing marketing campaigns, so that marketers and developers alike can quickly publish and update content to consumers across a variety of devices and media channels. It's challenging for marketers to manage messaging campaigns quickly and seamlessly across existing media channels, like mobile apps, websites, point-of-sale kiosks and social media. Meanwhile, an Experience Fragment is a locked "experience," which includes the Content Fragment, as well as locked instructions about layout and the use of multimedia. For instance, a hotel marketer could use Content Services to advertise to guests a happy hour special tied to a football game. A New Botnet of Things May Ravage the Web

The company that designed the chip in your smartphone hopes an entire industry will adopt its new set of rules to lock down connected devices. When Japanese telecom company SoftBank acquired British chip designer Arm last year for $32 billion, it did so with an eye on more than just phones and tablets. But Arm hopes that a new system, called Platform Security Architecture, will change that. Among its recommendations will be that firms use security certificates rather than passwords on connected hardware, so that hackers can’t use default passwords to easily take control of large numbers of devices. New endpoint protection platform guards against nation state attacks

Endpoint security company Endgame has become the first protection platform that measures its effectiveness not just against malware but against nation-state level attacks. It has worked with MITRE Corporation to validate protections against MITRE's ATT&CK Matrix, a framework for adversarial tactics and techniques that enterprises encounter daily. Using this approach provides a far more realistic understanding of protection against targeted attacks compared to other testing regimens. "The industry must redefine the scope of endpoint protection to ensure their technologies are truly effective against modern attacks," says Jamie Butler, CTO at Endgame. The Pentagon wants YOU to develop 'drone swarms' for the military

The US Department of Defense (DOD) earlier this month announced its “drone sprints” project, aimed at advancing “drone swarm” technology. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) — the government think-tank responsible for the program — released this YouTube video, which comes off as very “Dharma Initiative.” In it, Dr. The Pentagon intends to shore-up its drone capabilities by expanding on five key strategic areas in order to implement drone swarms at scale: DARPA will hold “swarm sprints” every six-months in order to promote accelerated advancement in tactical drone deployment. Reading This While Walking? In Honolulu, It Could Cost You

Honolulu has passed a law, which will take effect Wednesday, that allows the police to fine pedestrians up to $35 for viewing their electronic devices while crossing streets in the city and surrounding county. “This is really milestone legislation that sets the bar high for safety,” said Brandon Elefante, the City Council member who proposed the bill. People who text and walk, for example, are nearly four times as likely to engage in at least one dangerous action, like jaywalking or not looking both ways, and take 18 percent more time to cross a street than undistracted pedestrians. Critics are concerned about personal freedom and slow to adjust to new ideas, Mr. Canepa said. “But at the end of the day, people understand the value of public safety,” he added.

Proposed law would regulate online ads to hinder Russian election influence

A bipartisan group of federal lawmakers wants to make it more difficult for Russia to influence US elections. To that end, the group has drawn up legislation requiring Internet-based companies like Google, Twitter, and Facebook to disclose who is buying political advertisements on their platforms and maintain those records after elections. The Honest Ads Act would heap on the Internet some of the same types of political advertising rules that apply for TV, radio, and print. The legislation is designed to somehow enforce federal election laws that forbid foreign nationals and foreign governments from spending money in the US to influence elections. "We understand that election security is national security, and we know Russian threats to national security don't always involve traditional weapons of war," Sen. The proposal comes ahead of a November 1 congressional hearing concerning how Russia took advantage of online platforms with political advertising during last year's presidential election season. CNN’s new ‘This is an apple’ ad targets Trump

CNN is fighting back against President Donald Trump’s “fake news” tweets. In an ad released today, CNN rebuts charges by Trump and his supporters that CNN and other mainstream outlets make up news stories. If you’ve paid attention to President Trump’s tweets over the past 10 months, you’ve probably noticed a trend where the president consistently calls any media coverage that is negative toward the administration “fake news.” He followed that one up by retweeting — and later deleting — an image of a “Trump train” running over a person sort-of-wearing a CNN logo.

Sony’s New Autonomous Car Camera Sees Road Signs at 160 Meters

Sony’s new image sensor is designed to give regular camera vision a boost.. The new $90 IMX324 has an effective resolution of only 7.42 megapixels, which sounds small compared to your smartphone camera. But with about three times the vertical resolution of most car camera sensors, it packs a punch. It can see road signs from 160 meters away, has low-light sensitivity that allows it to see pedestrians in dark situations, and offers a trick that captures dark sections at high sensitivity but bright sections at high resolution in order to max out image recognition.
