VACANCY: Assistant Professor in Computational Social Science on behalf of University of Vermont


The University of Vermont (UVM) seeks a tenure track assistant professor with outstanding research and teaching capabilities in the realm of Computational Social Science. Candidates will be expected to have a Ph.D. in a computationally-focused program within the social and economic sciences, or in one of the computational, mathematical, and natural sciences. The successful candidate will join the Complex Systems Spire, one of UVM's three Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives (TRI) (, as well as UVM's Complex Systems Center ( The candidate's tenure home---department and college---will be based on the individual's background and research interests, and will be determined during the appointment process. 


The successful candidate will be expected to undertake an active program of scientific research that leads to global, national, and local impact, and to the growth of UVM as a leading institution in the data-driven study of large-scale, sociotechnical, and socionatural phenomena; to seek and obtain extramural funding for their research; and to design and evolve successful new courses in the computational social sciences at the graduate and undergraduate level. Teaching, training, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students will be required in this position. The successful candidate's research and teaching activities will be in part facilitated by the Vermont Advanced Computing Core, UVM's high performance supercomputing facility, whose continued growth and evolution will be part of the individual's research agenda.
