After my recent blogpost I got a lot of questions about shooting the XT1. Do I shoot the Fuji's at weddings? Yes. Do I exclusively shoot them? On an eSession, yes , for a wedding, not yet. After getting to know the XT1 (and XF56) for a couple of weeks I felt confident enough to challenge myself to try and use it as a primary body. I would still use my 5DIII but I didn't want to give the XT1 the role of backup/secondary. I wanted to see if it could perform as the primary-body in the near future. The main reason why it is difficult to just change camera's is that the couple has booked you more than a year in advance based on a portfolio shot entirely with full frame bodies & fast primes. So I wanted to be careful not to have a different style or feeling towards my pictures just because the camera has changed. Yes, the photographer makes the picture, not the camera , yada yada .... but there is no denying that the XT1 is a different animal and it has an impact on your photography. It also

Montepulciano, Italy on the Fuji X-E1 | Rebecca Lily | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it

Italy has a way of becoming part of you. I feel that I carry little pieces of it with me everywhere I go, and undoubtedly, I am spoiled forever when it comes to pizza, pasta, and a good latte macchiato. These images were all shot on my trusty little digital, the Fuji X-E1 with the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 lens. I experimented a bit here with a black and white post process. I was never much of a black and white person, but it grows on me lately. This Sunday Johnny and I leave for a week in Paris, and we plan to shoot a lot of film – both black and white, and color. I can’t believe that this little Indiana girl will be photographing the Eiffel Tower soon, and sipping café by the Seine .....

Fuji has been releasing been on a roll with lenses, but how does their cheapest lens on their cheapest camera perform? My first impression of this lens was that it looked nice, but was cheaply made. The barrel is all plastic, including the mount. The zoom mechanism is a little tight turning and the lens extends way out. However, there is an included hood, and the kit actually came with a body cap and rear lens cap (cheap push on type), which is better than most inexpensive kits today. The zoom range is an impressive 16-50mm, where the slightly wider view is a nice improvement over most kit lenses. The plastic makes the kit lens very light weight, weighing in at only 195g it uses a pretty advanced lens design with 3 aspheric elements, 1 low dispersion element, with 12 total elements in 10 groups. It has an average for class magnification of 0.15 at a minimum focus distance of 0.3 m. It uses 7 rounded blades for the aperture. Considering the price of X-A1 camera with this kit lens, how good could the lens possibly be? Lets find out......

Fuji X-E2 - Review and User Experience - Part 1

Fuji X-E2 - Review and User Experience - Part 1 | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it

Somewhat ahead of expectations stocks of the X-E2 have arrived in the UK. After some careful consideration (Unusual for me!) I have decided to go with Fuji in addition to my Panasonics for a while. I still have issues with the Fuji X system as a whole - battery life, fiddly processing, gaps in the lens range being three of them. But overall it is a system that suits me. The overiding reason here is the exemplary high(er) ISO performance that allows me to shoot beautifully clean images up to ISO 800, with all that implies for fast shutter speeds and narrow apertures. Plus it has to be said at a reasonable cost.

SAGRES NATURA - SOUTH PORTUGAL WITH THE FUJINON XF 55-200mm | Andreas Kandsberger | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
Now it`s time to show you some pictures from my recent trip to Portugal where I got the opportunity to test the new Fujinon 55-200 f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS lens. But first I want to tell you some background information to the journey. A good friend of mine, Nicole Kramm told me about the fun she had learning to surf. Every time she mentioned her adventures in the south of Portugal her eyes got that special look... So I remembered back the days (about 15 years ago) I was in the same situation. Heading down south, a surfboard on top of the car, looking for good waves in Italy or Portugal. Nicole´s tales about perfect lefts, glowing sundowns and the nice people down there made me dream. So I decided to pack my bags... So where is the missing link between a rolling wave and the 55-200mm telephoto zoom lens? Neither of them is perfect! But some things are getting close! As Patrick La Roque mentioned in his review of the new XF23mm: "Damn, another winner" - this is also true for the XF 55-200mm zoom! I shot the most pictures on this journey with this lens. Not just because of it´s common range - no! It´s because the lens is really near perfection!......

From the Fujifilm X-E1 to the X-E2 | Randall Cipriano | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
..... I will reserve any comments about image quality till after I run it through a proper shoot but all-in-all, I’m happy and welcome all the improvements implemented on the X-E2. Physically, it looks like the same camera, but only after using it will you realize the differences and improvements are significant. It addresses a lot of the concerns actual users have pointed out with the X-E1 and to top it off, Fujifilm has managed to merge some of the great features of the last few X series cameras into it as well. I’ve only had the unit for about a week now and I can’t wait to finally test it out in the field. Also, the great guys at Vanguard and Phottix Philippines sent over some awesome stuff that I will be showing you in the next few days and I will be working them along with X-E2 as I head to the land of BB cream and Kimchi in a hours from postings this......

Fujifilm X-E2:: The Back-up? | Riley Joseph | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
I bet people were thinking that. I know I was.. just not on October 18th. I was privy to the brand new X-E2 a few weeks ago. To be honest it did not get me excited. I have been looking for a back-up body since selling all of my dSLR gear a few months ago. I borrowed a X-E1 from Fujifilm Canada for a month and I just didn't like it. It wasn't as solid as the X-Pro1, the LCD was shabby, no optical viewfinder and it did not fit in my hand as well as the X-Pro1. Which was strange because I have girly hands and the X-E1 is pretty compact. I was given the opportunity to try out a pre-production Fujifilm X-E2 along with 3 of my X-Photographer pals Kale JF, Patrick Laroque & Don Craig. I was last in the chute to try it and it arrived about 7 hours prior to Fujifilm's big announcement (In my time zone the announcement was actually on October 17th at 10:30pm). I wanted to have something done at launch time but my schedule and crappy light made it not to be. I planned to wake up early the next day and really put the camera to the test for my style of photography. What I was expecting was a slightly upgraded X-E1. But what I found was very different.......

I have not been able to put this new XF23mm lens down. I've tried it on at least four different X-Series bodies and I love it on them all! Sharp and fast - what more could you want?? Focus ring has a limit (doesn't spin 360) from close-up to infinity, click stops on aperture ring, sharp focus peaking, and hyper-focal scale. On sale now the lens is going to quickly become a classic and launches the X series into new ground with the street shooters and photo enthusiasts. I've always loved carrying the X100S and now I have almost the same set up, yet with an extra stop of speed. Check it out at a dealer near you......

Travelling with the Fuji X-E1 | Karl Shaw | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
... Her Name is Fuji However, things changed about a year ago. I was lucky enough to be sent an X-Pro1 by Fuji and I did state at the time, in this magazine, that it was a game changer. And I still stand by those words. Fast forward a year and Fuji’s X-E1 now goes with me wherever I go. The X-E1 has the same internals as its bigger brother but outwardly is slightly smaller with less viewfinder options, but with a very handy built in flash – basically the same camera to all intents and purposes. But given this isn’t a camera test, I won’t go to the far ends describing every detail and explaining every feature. All I will say is that gone are the days when you ‘need’ a DSLR. Strong words? Maybe. ...

Fujinon 23mm F1.4 | Sven Schroeter

Fujinon 23mm F1.4 | Sven Schroeter | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it

Thanks to the friendly team at FujiFilm New Zealand I was lucky to spend the weekend with the new Fujinon 23mm F1.4 lens, which will hit shelves Monday morning, the same day my grace period expires and my copy gets recalled. The 35mm equivalent focal length of the new 23mm lens has been a favourite in the street photography realm for many years and is a must have prime for many, evident by the versatile and incredibly popular X100 and X100s cameras with the same fixed focal length. Up until now my favorite focal length from the Fuji camp has been the 35mm (52.5mm equivalent), it has been solely responsible for 90% of the street portraiture I have been pursuing. But it does have one downside: I feel the standard field of view (50mm) is not very good at sucking in and including the entire scene. Longer focal lengths compress and minimise the background reducing spacial awareness, which often add to the overall story. Ideal for creating clean and isolated portraits but lacking scale and placement can reduce the overall visual impact. This is where the new lens comes into play, filling the gap perfectly and becoming a formidable artistic weapon in the ever growing FujiFilm line up.......

Three Of A Kind? Fuji X100 vs Sony RX100 vs Ricoh GR

Three Of A Kind? Fuji X100 vs Sony RX100 vs Ricoh GR | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it

A couple of years ago the only option was a small digital camera with a sensor hardly bigger than the one in our smartphones. Thanks to Olympus that has changed. Small cameras with big sensors are the perfect solution if you want to travel light but image quality is still important to you.

There are so many options today but one of the most consequent solutions is to get a small camera with a big sensor and an integrated lens.

Here I want to compare three of them:

X100S - Expert Mode | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
I have been trying to interact a bit over on the very few G+ forums/groups that I follow in hopes of making them a bit more discussion oriented instead of yet another social media transmit onlyexperience. Interact meaning responding to other people’s stuff or creating a topic based on things other people are talking about. Transmit only being what seems to be mor and more the default usage mode for all these allegedly “social” options. More on that another day. Today I was discussing the usage specifics for a set of circumstances of the little Fuji X100S with someone that quite literally just acquired it partially due to a previous conversation I had with him.

Shooting Amber Tutton with the Fuji X-E1 | My Fashion Photography Scene

Shooting Amber Tutton with the Fuji X-E1 | My Fashion Photography Scene | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
When you’ve got great models to work with, the ideas start to flow both before the day and during. Amber is one of those models where I definitely get “in the zone” and experiment to produce something that I think would benefit my portfolio. The day was a little different to the norm though as I make the transition from DSLR to a mirrorless camera setup. Here was my first model shoot with the Fuji X-E1 and it’s APS-C sensor. ... I was finding the Lumix a little noisy for some of the natural light stills work that I do in the studio. When I say noisy, I mean probably from about 800 ISO upwards and sometimes on dull days in the studio I have to work at 1000 ISO and slightly above. So my thoughts went along the lines of needing a bigger sensor of something like the X-E1, but without the bulk of my full-frame Nikon D600. And I could get the XE-1 with it’s pro 18-55mm f2.8-4 lens for the same price as the Lumix 12-35mm on it’s own. So I now considered that I have an equivalent focal length (28-85mm in full-frame terms) AND a backup mirrorless camera ….. or was the X-E1 eventually going to be my main shooting camera?

Fujifilm - Xpro-1 Wedding Photography Michigan USA | Craig David Butler | FUJIFILM |X-series| | Scoop.it
The Xpro-1 was has been my go to camera for personal use for some time now. While I have used it at several weddings over this past year I have not made it my main camera until this past weekend on Friday (10/18/2013). In my previous post at a wedding earlier this year I captured some incredible images and processed lightly in photoshop to Black and White. This time was a little different – I knew the capabilities of the camera. It has this amazing ability to capture a wider dynamic range and this being a very sunny day I wanted to see how it would do capturing a white gown in such a contrasty situation. I also wanted to compare the white balance to my Canon 5DIII captures. My findings and now general assumptions are that the Xpro-1 is able to capture a more natural white balance, low chromatic aberration at low F-stops and the ability to capture a wider dynamic range. I have also found that my thought process during most photos with this camera are a little more planned rather than the spur of the moment capture I am usually doing with the Canon’s. Composition is also a little more accurate as I love the ability to level the camera in the viewfinder.......
