Almost half of Britain’s leading companies failed to comply with the law and disclose subsidiaries that can be used as an offshore means to avoid tax, it can be revealed.

Studies shows that four in every five jobs created since 2010 have been in low-pay sectors. Wage rises in 2013 are averaging 2%, while inflation is running at 2.8%. Darlington, workers have seen their hourly real-pay rates fall by 16.2% in the last five years – a huge £75.94 real-terms cut in the weekly pay packets of full-time employees.

Business owners believe that the high street banks do not care about small businesses, with nearly half raising concerns over disproportionate salaries and profits, a survey has revealed.

A study of more than 2,000 small firms, by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), found that one third of businesses noticed an increase in the fees paid to their bank across the year, with the average charge paid by a small firm between £1,000 and £4,000.

Nearly half of all small businesses applying for a loan recently have been turned away by their bank, despite the Bank of England providing billions of pounds to lenders to encourage them to support SMEs.
