Tweet from @FAOawelfare

Stacy Hudman's insight:

European courts are looking to boost consumer confidence in organically produced animal products.

Some higher quality standards for the care and management of organic animal livestocks are meant to ensure that these animals are being treated humanly even though the organic food market is growing rapidly.

The new rules for organic farming would improve treatment of organic livestock, guarantee fair competition for small and large organic producers, and ensure appropriate housing and breeding practices as well as ensuring that these animals are given outdoor access.

This proposal also includes disease prevention, terrestrial farms, and definitions on organic aquaculture, which is detrimental due to the world's increasing seafood demand.

Maybe this new legislature can make its way across the pond to the U.S.? It could shed some light on the production of organic animal products and give the United States a firm and final push into the organic food craze.

4 Myths about Organic Food | Healthy Food - YouTube

Watch more How to Eat Healthy Food videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501142-Surprisingly-Fattening-Food-Healthy-Food Learn four myths about organic food ...
Stacy Hudman's insight:

These video tells us about some of the myths of organic food, but are any of them really true?

These myths tell us that organically grown food, taste better, are better for you, are locally grown and that they are fresher than conventionally grown foods.

Although some organic foods are good for you, not all of them are.  Some fruits and vegetables are sprayed more with GMO's than others.

The ones that aren't sprayed as much doesn't have a significant advantage over fruits and vegetables that haven't been sprayed at all.

However, the ones that are usually sprayed a lot have a significant disadvantage over the organically grown fruits, so people should take advantage of those.

Also, not all organically grown food tastes better than conventionally grown food and not are always fresher.

Some organically grown food could be imported from another country, so your money is not exactly going to local farmers.

However, if you shop at a farmers market, you are guaranteed to have your money go to local farmers in the area.
