WATCH: Taylor Morris, Quadruple Amputee, Dances With Girlfriend | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
Taylor Morris and Danielle Kelly's love story is a captivating one: Morris was hit by an explosive device while serving in Afghanistan and became one of the few surviving quadruple amputees, but that didn't stop him from dancing at a recent wedding...

The next time any people start whining to me and feeling sorry for themselves, I will slap them and tell them to consider Navy vet Taylor Morris. His legs and arms were blown off this past May, and he's committed to living life and certainly inspiring me.

Our doom will come sci-fi-style, NASA-funded study says | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
Uh-oh. The '1 Percent' might just lead to the complete collapse of civilization, according to a study sponsored by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. But all hope is not lost. Read this article by Michael Franco on CNET.
Skip Stein's insight:

This difference with the 1% thing is a result of gross negligence in our political structure, coupled with greed/graft/corruption.  The liberal Elites (most are very rich but decry other's wealth) have created this unbalance in society by disabling the Free Markets.  Taking bribes, and other 'contributions' from corrupt corporations (big agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, health care, insurance, automotive etc.) they have destroyed the basic workings of the Free Enterprise System.  Free Enterprise depends on FREE MARKETS and with all the unbalanced rules, regulations and other crap, it is almost impossible for the middle class hard working entrepreneurs to gain a foothold.

It is the illegal and Unconstitutional actions of the Washington Elte that is destroying Our Great Country and it's economy.  Illegal actions, regulations that only favor the massive global corporations and suppress the small and local/regional businesses created by corrupt politicians and their masters in the Corporate Lobbies, have just about done US in.  But NOT QUITE YET.  There is still time to REVOLT and stop doing business with these people, vote the corrupt out of office.  These global corporations depend on YOUR MONEY to let them survive and since they don't quite Control everything yet, we can just refuse to purchase their products, make things last longer and starve the bastards out!

Do business with LOCAL and REGIONAL businesses and companies.  Spurn the massive multi-national global conglomerates.  Learn how to grow some of your own food and find a local (preferably organic) farmer.  Support YOUR neighbours!

EDITORIAL: The Star-Spangled ban | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
Old Glory just can’t catch a break in the courts. Judges have said you can do anything with the American flag, burn it, step on it, spit on it. Twenty-five years ago the Supreme Court upheld the First Amendment right of the “Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade” to set fire to a stolen flag as an expression of free speech. Last week, an appellate court in San Francisco (naturally) decided that kids can’t wear a T-shirt with the Stars and Stripes on it lest it offend someone.

IBM says radical new ‘in-memory’ computing architecture will speed up computers 200 times

IBM says radical new ‘in-memory’ computing architecture will speed up computers 200 times | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it

IBM Research announced Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2017) that its scientists have developed the first “in-memory computing” or “computational memory” computer system architecture, which is expected to yield yield 200x improvements in computer speed and energy efficiency — enabling ultra-dense, low-power, massively parallel computing systems.

Their concept is to use one device (such as phase change memory or PCM*) for both storing and processing information. That design would replace the conventional “von Neumann” computer architecture, used in standard desktop computers, laptops, and cellphones, which splits computation and memory into two different devices. That requires moving data back and forth between memory and the computing unit, making them slower and less energy-efficient.

The researchers used PCM devices made from a germanium antimony telluride alloy, which is stacked and sandwiched between two electrodes. When the scientists apply a tiny electric current to the material, they heat it, which alters its state from amorphous (with a disordered atomic arrangement) to crystalline (with an ordered atomic configuration). The IBM researchers have used the crystallization dynamics to perform computation in memory.

The researchers believe this new prototype technology will enable ultra-dense, low-power, and massively parallel computing systems that are especially useful for AI applications. The researchers tested the new architecture using an unsupervised machine-learning algorithm running on one million phase change memory (PCM) devices, successfully finding temporal correlations in unknown data streams.

“This is an important step forward in our research of the physics of AI, which explores new hardware materials, devices and architectures,” says Evangelos Eleftheriou, PhD, an IBM Fellow and co-author of an open-access paper in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Communications. “As the CMOS scaling laws break down because of technological limits, a radical departure from the processor-memory dichotomy is needed to circumvent the limitations of today’s computers.”

“Memory has so far been viewed as a place where we merely store information, said Abu Sebastian, PhD. exploratory memory and cognitive technologies scientist, IBM Research and lead author of the paper. But in this work, we conclusively show how we can exploit the physics of these memory devices to also perform a rather high-level computational primitive. The result of the computation is also stored in the memory devices, and in this sense the concept is loosely inspired by how the brain computes.” Sebastian also leads a European Research Council funded project on this topic.

Skip Stein's insight:

New companies on the internet are charging huge prices for high CBD hemp oil. This is bordering on criminal as hemp oil is simple to make in small amounts in your own kitchen. The problem is finding a small supply of high CBD hemp buds. As States and the corrupt bureaucratic idiots continue to make this 'wonder drug' illegal and almost impossible to procure, companies will prey on individuals who seek the medical use to CURE many diseases. THIS is what BIG and Corrupt Government does. FIght against it and vote YES as a beginning in FLorida for legalizing medical marijuana then we can try to move forward to fully legalize this wondrous plant.

Russian Deputy PM Laughs at Obama's Sanctions

Russian Deputy PM Laughs at Obama's Sanctions | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
MOSCOW – Russia’s deputy prime minister laughed off President Obama’s sanction against him today  asking “Comrade @BarackObama” if “some prankster” came up with the list. The Obama administration hit 11 Russian and Ukrainian officials with sanctions today as punishment for Russia’s support of Crimea’s referendum. Among them: aides to President Vladimir Putin, a top government official, senior lawmakers, Crimean officials, the ousted president of Ukraine, and a Ukrainian politician and businessman allegedly tied to violence against protesters in Kiev. It remains to be seen whether the sanctions will dissuade Russia from annexing Crimea, but one an early clue that they…
Skip Stein's insight:

Just about every Obama policy, legislation he and his administration has done is in total disaster.  His weakness as a person, lack of integrity and his arrogance is a dramatic abuse of his Office.  He wants to be 'Mr. Nice Guy' to the world and they spit in his face as the weakling he is.  He is destroying the American economy with his economic policies and has destroyed American strength throughout the World.  What an unmitigated disaster.  He has no clue what he is doing and no one in his administration does either.  Regan's "Peace Through Strength" and 'Trust But Verify" were simple but extremely effective policy.  Obama's of surrender and draw idiotic lines in the sand have made US look weak and totally ineffective on the World stage.

Corporate Cash Abroad Rises $206 Billion as Multinationals Avoid Taxes | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
The largest U.S.-based companies added $206 billion to their stockpiles of offshore profits last year, parking earnings in low-tax countries until Congress gives them a reason not to.
Skip Stein's insight:

Obama's insane fiscal policies are killing jobs and eliminating opportunities in the USA for economic growth.  The high corporate tax structures encourage companies to keep foreign profits OUT of the USA; further limiting local/national growth and corporate investment.  Now with his idiotic mandate of overtime for previously exempt workers, companies will further reduce hours/staff to limit expenses.  This idiot is single handedly destroying OUR Economy and the corrupt congress sits there with their thumbs in their butts, letting Obama totally abuse the Executive Branch authority.  What happened to OUR CONSTITUTION and the Checks & Balances built in.  Time to elect some congress people who will actually DO THEIR JOBS and follow their Oath of Office!  Remember in November!  The revolution starts now!
