Integrating video projects into the classroom can be as simple or complex as you want. Just grab a phone, digital camera or tablet and your students are on their way. Here are some video project ideas, divided into ideas for any classroom and ideas for specific subject areas:

These look like great ideas to encourage media literacy as well. You have to understand media from the inside to create media. Nothing makes you more media literate then learning to create it.

Mike Vogel: "State of Syn isn’t an ordinary series. There are episodes with a stylistic approach that feels more like a video game than a webseries, a mobile app where you unlock puzzles, and a Google Glass app currently in development."

Whether or not State of Syn succeeds commercially or critically, they should get kudos for pushing boundaries of multi-sensory #transmedia #storytelling and helping people think differently about integrating technology such as Google Glass. Efforts like this emphasize #AR apps and wearable technology as a rich form of experience instead of creepy privacy violation. In this case, the game mechanics do not tie directly to the series. The Google Glass is more of a "parallel play" experience linking narrative with gaming. One app (for $) creates a “synesthesia” layer – the same trait held by the show’s lead protagonist Annika Drake. (I've always wanted to know what it was like to taste music and see feelings.) This should light a fire under other innovators to get creative! Can't wait to see what happens.

This scoop it profile by @Tom D'Amico (@TDOttawa) includes many useful blogs and articles that aim to teach in the 21st century. This includes learning with the use of technology. What he refers to as the 'iGeneration' includes many useful updates that can be used for both the students and teachers in the classroom. A few i came across that sparked my interest were a description on how to set up a blog with wordpress for teachers, this can be very useful to me as a student now and also in the future. I enjoy D'Amico's profile as he scoops quite interesting topics.

When curriculum resources are limitless due to the access we have to on-line materials, then the question we ask about those materials become more important. Values Education helps us all to ask the right questions! See some innovative whole school projects at: http://valueseducation.edu.au/verve/_resources/VASP_FINAL_REPORT_2010.pdf |

I think digital literacy will become just as important as reading, writing and maths. When will it become more important, is the question? Will reading, writing and math be taught by teaching code? I look forward to seeing what happens during my career in education.

In Common Core we all need to focus on critical thinking as well as writing... This is a great tool to be using! |
Students in successful classrooms not only understand what they are learning, but why they are learning it and how it connects to the world beyond the classroom. Whether it is designing all the components to make a house in a high school maths/technology class or reading a home reader in primary school, students are able to connect with the what, how and why of learning.
We need more innovation for engagement!
