Berhan's insight:

I am very impressed by the acceptance shown towards Robbie Rogers. This has shown that the love of the game has transcended beyond that of our diversity of sexual orientations but instead has brought us closer together. The effort to document his challenges will encourage many other like himself to step forward and make a stand. His courage is admirable as he ran the risk of being ostracised.

Berhan's insight:

We all aspire to be somebody great. With the increased accessibility towards all kinds of information, we assume that anything is possible since information is power. However, some things are different from cooking the perfect pasta. In this case, learning a simple football trick is easy but actually applying it is the tricky part. It takes years of experience and practise to perfect any art. The sea of vast information that the online community provides is dangerously delusional, thus we must be aware that everything has its limitations.

Manchester United's Ed Woodward tells fans new signings are imminent
The Guardian
Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, has told Manchester United fans to expect new signings and several departures over the next few weeks.
Berhan's insight:

Words are said, promises are made. Football clubs have a social responsibility towards the fans to adhere to the promises they make and that is the measure of a upright club. This is largely applicable to corporate life. Authorities have decisions to make and also promises they have to keep towards their employees to earn their trust and support. Disappointment is a festering plague that swarms quietly within any organisation and it is important to keep the disappointment at bay for the organisation to prosper.

Berhan's insight:

The 2 of football's sporting giants are at it again. Both entities recognise the power of social media and the level of exposure it can provide towards increasing the level of brand awareness. The detailed analysis reveals the level of significance but at the end of the day, social media is the ultimate winner with the whirlwind of frenzied status updates, tweets etc that accompanied a phenomenal World Cup season.

Steven Gerrard RETIRES from international football after World Cup ...
Berhan's insight:

Life as a footballer is never permanent. Gerrard has now quit the international stage without winning any top accolades. Once your fitness is gone, its never coming back or at least it would never be the same ever again. This is quite reflective of our lives whereby we will always have that golden opportunity to achieve the climax of achievements. The immediate moment that ship has sailed, we know it and as logical wise human beings, it is best to not cling onto futile hopes and instead move onto other windows of opportunities.

Soccer is a multi-billion dollar industry and many other industries recognise that fact. In this case, GoPro understood the kind of global brand awareness that this simple sport could bring. Celebrity endorsement is an immense contributing factor to advertisements these days. Furthermore, sponsers are intensely eager to get their names on many sporting stages to get their names out there in the market.

Why is US in love with football? Sorry, soccer - BBC News

Whatever the result against Germany today, the US has emerged as the pre-eminent English-speaking football nation at this World Cup. And the team's success h...
Berhan's insight:

Soccer to Americans is a more family-oriented game where they send their sons and daughters to once a week. It is also considered a sport associated with girls, ironically. However, with the emergence of the World Cup, the game that is scrappishly played at the nearby park has taken a centre stage on the global arena. With soccer on the brink of a breakthrough in America, many people have recognised the magic of football to bring people together regardless of the diversity, setting everyone on a unequal footing. And that in a way, is reflective of the American Dream.

Berhan's insight:

Games are not won with just the feet or the head when it is what is inside the head that matters. One of the main reason why Germany won was due to their meticulous analysis and research of their opposition that was carried out way before each game. This principle is largely applicable to our daily lives. No matter what we do, we must always be prepared. Even if the preparation may not gurantee results, it may still turn the odds in our favour.

Berhan's insight:

Sex sells. No matter where we go, we cannot avoid these angelic vision of God's perfection. The accusation of Mankind being a superficial bunch is a monumental truth we cannot escape from. Beautiful people area a joy to look at and for some reason, we will always place them upon a pedestal, only for it all to come crashing down the moment we hear them fart, burp, snore or do something just as "human" as anyone else.

Nike Drops Out Of Man United Bidding - Business Insider

Nike Drops Out Of Man United Bidding - Business Insider | Football | Scoop.it
Manchester United has bowed out of the bidding to sponsor Manchester United's equipment after Adidas reportedly made a huge offer.
Berhan's insight:

It is amazing how a game that started off with men wanting to put balls in nets using their feet has evolved into such a multi-billion industry. From other sources, I discovered that the sponsership from Adidas would sum up to 750million, breaking the record for any sporting sponsership history. It also made me realise that as long as you are an establised branding, there is no need to fear a lack of investment sources.
