The packed lunches of pupils at poor schools and rich schools in Wellington are markedly different.

I agree with the statement from the low decile Principal that if kids don't have full bellies, they won't learn...but I also agree with the high decile Principal who's concern is "that a blanket provision of food to lower-decile schools would erode parental responsibility. Parents should be given the means and dignity to feed their children"

Students will soon be able to pick their own healthy lunches from fruit trees dotted around a Nelson school.

Love this idea! Why not have a school garden and the schools help provide their students meals from their own homegrown garden - so many benefits from such a project. Could this be supported by the government?
