Publicis unveils innovation concept

Publicis unveils innovation concept | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it
Publicis Worldwide has partnered with The Trampery to launch an innovation facility. - Brand Republic
food from london's insight:

It aims to connect large brands with start-ups. It will offer services including supper clubs, "meet the makers" workshops, coding classes and hackathons, as well as longer-term accelerator and incubator programmes. The offering will be available to all Publicis clients.

Arthur Sadoun, Publicis Worldwide’s chief executive, said: "Publicis introduced the American Drugstore concept to France in the 50s because we were struck by how consumers benefited from having different businesses together under one roof. Today, this same premise underpins our new innovation offering, so it is fitting that we call it ‘Publicis Drugstore’."

Why London Is the Capital of Food

Why London Is the Capital of Food | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it

Pound for pound, nose to tail, there's never been a better or, frankly, wackier time for food in London. Few culinary capitals can compete with this one.

food from london's insight:

Love this article. What exciting times we live and eat in. Alongside all the fantastic reviews in the piece, I think that the ever growing street food markets  like Kerb are also more than worthy of a mention. As are the increasing number of local farmers markets selling superb locally grown and produced food to an audience becoming more aware of the importance of buying local.

Picco Salumi

Picco Salumi | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it

We follow a long-established and inherited way of making salumi. The Picco family, backed by 80  years of tradition in salumi making in Italy, has established in North London with the aim of producing the best salumi using the best of British free range meats.

Our salumi combine 100% totally free range British pork, organic artisanal untreated sea salt from the salt pans of Sicily, top quality spices and a slow ageing process without the use of bacterial starters and/or lactose that allows the fiore (moulds) to develop fully and confers a sweetness and a lack of acidity typical of home made salumi.

A London Pub For All Reasons

A London Pub For All Reasons | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it

The 30 pubs included appeal for 30 different reasons: a happy cat, a river view, for architectural beauty or unchanging atmosphere. We have included pubs where mobile phones are barred and where children are not welcome; where food is recommended and where Guiness is brought to your table. There are old pubs and new, pretty pubs and less lovely ones, but from Hammersmith to Limehouse, Hampstead to Clapham, each of those included has something that commends it.

King's Cross - KERB

King's Cross - KERB | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it

I'm so excited about finding this food market. What a story. All of my years in London, I have used St Pancras Station to travel back and forth to family in Sheffield. 2 years ago I discovered Camley Street Natural park which I love. Now, I will be arriving at the station well before the time of my train to sample the offerings at Kerb.

Day: Mon-Fri
Time: 11am-2:30pm
Who: 4-7 Traders Each Day

"The much-loved and much documented market at the top of King’s Boulevard has been run since October 2011 by Petra Barran – first under the name of the former street food collective, eat.st, and now, since October 2012, as KERB.

What sets KERB apart from other markets in London is its rotating and ever-evolving array of carefully picked stalls and vans. Being average or predictable isn’t an option – it’s deliciousness all the way from London’s most exciting new food crew. We switch offerings daily so that you can eat here several times a day, five days a week, and still not double-up. (Who’s up for that challenge?)

Every trader is a member of KERB and comes having passed our strict joining process. This means flavour, personality and kerbside spirit guaranteed from whoever slings to you. As the METRO’s Marina O’Loughlin says, “These aren’t your average mobile food merchants” - check out the KX Rota to the right to see who’s on when, and then come and find out why!"

Is gentrification killing Brixton Market?

Is gentrification killing Brixton Market? | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it

Brixton Market is the sort of place you could never design from scratch — characterful and nourishing. But like any eco-system, the balance is delicate. ‘It’s not going to last forever,’ say the stallholders. What they fear is the moment the market becomes the victim of its own success. Two recent events seem to have brought this closer. The first was rent rises of between ten and 28 per cent imposed by InShops, the company that manages the market from its head office in Liverpool. At Nour Cash & Carry, owner Salam Shaheen says his 22 per cent rent rise will shut him down, while his daughter Saja believes there is a move to ‘change the demographic of Brixton’. The feeling is so strong that locals have started a campaign to save the shop.

The other event was the first real stinker of a review for one of the Market’s restaurants, Wishbone, a fried chicken joint on Market Row, started by one of the founders of MeatLiquor. ‘Something was bound to come along to sour the whole affair,’ wrote The Observer’s food critic Jay Rayner, who had been a local champion of the market. ‘That something is Wishbone.’ Aside from the ‘awful’ cooking, he found its bullishly trendy aesthetic ‘completely out of place… all shiny polished floors and chrome-accessorised bars. It looks like a lump of Soho transported south of the river.’

10 of the best London street food stalls

10 of the best London street food stalls | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it
In this extract from Boat Magazine's A-Z of London street food, we pick 10 of the best gourmet stalls in the capital, offering dishes from around the world, from melt-in-the-mouth pulled-pork sarnies to sweet, hot churros...
food from london's insight:

t's no secret there has been a recent surge in the London street-food scene. The number of vendors is growing. The standard of the food started high and is getting higher. There are more areas around London that are welcoming friendly food vans, trucks, and airstreams that serve everything from good ol' pork pies and scotch eggs to Korean comfort food. New markets are popping up around London with even more street-food vendors. It's easy to see that the capital is quickly becoming a street-food force to be reckoned with.

Kacy Florence's curator insight, October 1, 2014 10:42 AM

In London, street food is very popular. But these are your typical hot dog stands, but instead gourmet vendors serve things from macaroons and crêpes, to firebread and korean fast food. Firebread is like a pizza made with sourdough covered in different topping. They make them in a clay oven built into their food van. Yum!

St John & Dolly Smith's Pickles, Sauces & Chutneys

St John & Dolly Smith's Pickles, Sauces & Chutneys | Food from LONDON | Scoop.it
It seems like only yesterday that I began making the pickles, sauces and chutneys which I now proudly produce under the names of my parents,
St. John & Dolly Smith.  When I started making the pickles, I had no previous experience of the catering business in any form and, obviously for this reason, I had never considered entering the pickle business. One day a chance encounter in a shop in Southall, West London, changed my career and perhaps, my life.

Our Potted History will tell you about this strange coincidence which led to the birth of my company which is now bringing a great deal of pleasure to discerning lovers of premium quality Pickles, Sauces and Chutneys.
