Pro Tools Is No Longer the Biggest Digital Audio Workstation...

That's according to Digital Music Doctor, which has been tracking Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) popularity since 2004.  And the latest results are pretty surprising: instead of Pro Tools, Imageline's FL Studio now takes the cake, both on a quarterly and yearly average basis.

Pro Tools until this year has been the leading industry standard for DAW's (via DMD) now Avid's Pro-Tools ranks number 2 to Image Line's FL Studio, formerly called "Fruity Loops".
Tez La Banga's comment, June 11, 2013 12:07 PM
i totally agree with this article but i still prefer Pro Tools for recording, mixing and mastering, as FL Studio is still PC only.

Producing The Best Dubstep Songs - 4 Industry DAWS For Music Production

Creating quality tracks involve finding programs that help you find and build the sound you want. The right systems involve creativity and flexibility for your work. Take time to compare the leading four main systems known for this type of work. The beauty of these systems is that they can go a long way toward helping you sound like a professional club mixer. Look for ample features and ways to mix and record. With those elements in place, you can push the limits of your own creative edge. At the top of the list, Ableton Live can appeal to musically trained artists. The system comes with an array of virtual instrumentation and enhanced looping with the Looper feature. If you are looking at exploring beat warping, this program can assist you with that capability. Apple also is in the game to help home producers in this genre with its No. 2 ranked Logic Pro system. Sold at the App Store, this system loads onto your existing Mac for a basic and complete digital audio workstation, including a MIDI sequencer. For those who love all things Apple, this is the product for you to form the basis of your system. Coming in at No. 3 is Propellerhead's Reason and Record, which offers a recording function to work with the package. This gives you a system for fully functioning recording audio as you build and create beats and play virtual instruments. This is the type of program for someone who wants maximum versatility in the recording process. Rounding out the list is FL Studio. This remains one of the most popular loop-building systems, established in the late 1990s when personal computer sales took off and people began to make recordings using home digital technology. The system continues to improve with more features and upgrades to allow you maximum flexibility in your production. Your goal to make the best dubstep songs can be a pleasurable audio experience filled with lessons in how to make the most of your sound creation system when you work on musical projects. As you build loops and tracks, you may find that the work becomes easier, particularly with the right system. Take time to study manuals and watch online tutorials for more lessons in getting the most from your system. The author is a professional electronic songwriter from Los Angeles. Demo Limitations

All FL Studio demo versions are fully featured, giving customers access to features associated with

the highest level of the program (Producer Edition). Compose new songs and export them to WAV,

MP3 or OGG. The only limitation is that projects saved in demo mode will only open fully once FL

Studio and plugins have been registered. This gives you the ability to save recover your original

projects post-purchase.

FL Studio Producer Edition 2012 | Best Digital Audio Workstation Software - TopTenREVIEWS

FL Studio Producer Edition 2012 | Best Digital Audio Workstation Software - TopTenREVIEWS | Image Line - FL Studio 10 & 11 | Scoop.it

Ahh FL Studios (once named Fruity Loops), we meet again.  FL Studios was the first DAW I ever used, and at that time it was called Fruity Loops.

FL Studios is the most common DAW used among beginners, and for this reason is said to be GREATLY underestimated.  Many people think that since it is commonly used among beginners that, well, it sucks, but they are wrong.  FL Studios is an awesome platform for expert producers.

The look of FL Studios is very clean, and the workflow is magical.  Honestly, it compares to Logic Pro on many levels.  The routing functionality in FL Studios is VERY intuitive.  The only reason I have not used FL Studios is for the simple fact that I do not own it.

Overall, it is a great program.  If you are planning on using a Windows computer to produce music, then I highly recommend FL Studios.
