How to Create Engaging Videos for Students With Three Easy Methods | flipping instruction | Scoop.it
Screencasting (or the direct capture of your computer screen with audio narration) is a simple way to record your lectures for differentiation, flipped learning, concept reinforcement, and much more. The best part about screencasting is that you're often giving the very same lecture you give in class, but simply with a recorder application running in the background. What are the best tools to get started with screencasting?

Four Assessment Strategies for the Flipped Learning Environment

Four Assessment Strategies for the Flipped Learning Environment | flipping instruction | Scoop.it
Flipped learning environments offer unique opportunities for student learning, as well as some unique challenges. By moving direct instruction from the class group space to the individual students’ learning spaces, time and space are freed up for the class as a learning community to explore the most difficult concepts of the course. Likewise, because students are individually responsible for learning the basics of new material, they gain regular experience with employing self-regulated learning strategies they would not have in an unflipped environment.

The flipped classroom: six myths

The flipped classroom: six myths | flipping instruction | Scoop.it
According to many in the educational technology business, it’s using online video to deliver lectures to students and personalize the learning process. However, if you read the work of education researchers, the flipped class model is more about promoting active learning in class, in pursuit of higher-level, critical thinking skills. So which is it?

How flipped learning works in (and out of) the classroom

How flipped learning works in (and out of) the classroom | flipping instruction | Scoop.it

Flipped learning is more than just having students do homework during the school day. It’s more than just putting the onus on students to teach themselves. In fact, it’s neither of those things. Don’t be fooled by simple explanations of flipped classrooms that simplify a highly complex undertaking.

Flipping The Classroom... A Goldmine of Research and Resources To Keep You On Your Feet

Flipping The Classroom... A Goldmine of Research and Resources To Keep You On Your Feet | flipping instruction | Scoop.it
Many educators are beginning to become aware of the growing teaching method referred to as “Flipping The Classroom”. Simply put… the teacher provides videos for homework, while traditional home work is done in class under teacher supervision. Unfortunately this might be just too simplistic of a definition. Possible this is why using the words “simply put” may not be the best practice in explaining anything.

This wordpress account blog was created in 2012 but is full with excellent resources in regards to the research of a flipped classroom. Discusses the development and statistics in regards to the benefits it has had in classrooms all over. Many great links are shared here including an infographic, articles from New York Times and USA Today. All these resources help provide a good insight on to how and why a flipped classroom is something new to try. I really like how it ends with higher level thinking skills. I know personally in my campus we are constantly trying to get our students to think critically.

UDL and The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture

UDL and The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture | flipping instruction | Scoop.it

Jackie Gerstein proposes an experiential flipped classroom learning model where she believes there a  great opportunity to change the predominant didactic model of education that is especially prevalent in upper elementary through graduate school education.

"UDL is a strategy, a process that provides opportunities for all students, not just those with special needs (but I believe all learners have special needs), to be successful learners. This is the same goal for the flipped classroom model designed as an experiential learning cycle.

This model has experiential learning at the core of the learning process with the content videos supporting the learning rather than being the core or primary instructional piece. Experiential learning is the process of making meaning from direct experience.. Simply put, experiential learning is learning from experience. Experiential learning can be a highly effective educational method[ It engages the learner at a more personal level by addressing the needs and wants of the individual. For experiential learning to be truly effective, it should employ the whole learning wheel, from goal setting, to experimenting and observing, to reviewing, and finally action planning. This complete process allows one to learn new skills, new attitudes or even entirely new ways of thinking. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experiential_learning)"

Thank you Jackie for your insight in creating this model where all learners can experience success!
