Rachel Chan's insight:

People often think that if you want to eat healthy or lose weight, you have to make drastic changes and compromise on aspects like taste. Swap out your regular snacks for these Oz-Approved foods. They're healthy and they can help you start losing weight!
Rachel Chan's insight:

Diet is a key component of fitness and health. Sometimes, we mistake cravings for hunger and end up overeating. It is also a common misconception that we have to cut out extra meals like snacks from our daily routine in order to shed those pounds. However, we can simply switch our unhealthy processed snacks for healthier foods that can be just as tasty. For example, why not have a watermelon instead of candy if you're craving something sweet. You can kill two birds with one stone since you satisfy your sweet cravings and boost your metabolism. Foods like nuts also contain plenty of fiber and can make you feel full faster so you don't eat as much. This is a list of snacks that are both tasty and can help you on your weight loss journey.

5 healthy habits that regulate your appetite

5 healthy habits that regulate your appetite | Jumping on the fitness bandwagon | Scoop.it
Once, one of my clients half-jokingly requested an exorcism from the demon possessing her body: hunger
Rachel Chan's insight:

An essential component of good fitness and health is your diet and mental health. Staying healthy is all about maintaining a balance. Instead of focusing solely on calorie intake or how many calories you are burning, you should just consume whole foods and try to switch up your exercises by making them fun. Studies have shown that doing fun exercises like dancing or roller skating can be more beneficial than gruelling calorie burning workouts. This is due to the fact that it doesn't cause you to work up a huge appetite. While exercise or staying active plays a large role, getting enough rest is just as important because we need to let our body recover in order for it to perform at its best.

Hey guys! Today we're tackling the topic of JUICING!! Is it a diet fad or is it a healthy lifestyle? Will a 7 day juice fast help you permanently slim down? ...
Rachel Chan's insight:

"Juicing" or juice cleanses, where you consume only bottles of raw fruit and vegetable juice for a period of time, are the latest fad diet of 2014. Juice cleanses are said to be extremely effective for ridding your body of toxins. In this video, YouTube Fitness Guru Cassey Ho explains how juicing works, what this diet entails, whether it is beneficial for weight loss and how it can complement your diet and fitness routine. It is educational and informative for people who are interested in doing juice cleanses for the first time whether it is for weight loss or for detoxing. It lets them know what they are getting themselves in to. The video also explains how juicing can be incorporated into your diet, instead of limiting your diet solely to bottles of raw juice. I think that this is good because it educates people and gives them the option to use juicing as a supplement as well.

The 7 Most Common Roadblocks To Running (And How To Overcome Them)

The 7 Most Common Roadblocks To Running (And How To Overcome Them) | Jumping on the fitness bandwagon | Scoop.it
By Amanda Loudin for Life by DailyBurn

Running is 90 percent mental, or so the saying goes. And if you've ever bonked, DNF'ed or suffered through a bad track workout, then you know this to be true. Few other sports can challenge your brain as much...
Rachel Chan's insight:

Running is easily one of the toughest workouts but it is also one of the most effective exercises when it comes to shedding those pounds. It involves both mental and physical aspects. This article provides some suggestions on how to stay motivated before and during your run. It starts with motivating yourself to get out and go for a run. Cultivating a love for or an interest in running can make it more enjoyable and that could very well be what gets you out of the door. Ultimately at the end of the day, motivation and mental strength could be what gets you to push yourself and complete an extra mile or two. I think this article is very useful because these roadblocks are exactly what all runners go through - whether they are people who have been running for awhile or who are in the process of just starting. We all have a tendency to compare ourselves with others, especially since running is something that is done in a public space unless you have a treadmill at home. At the end of the day, you should be listening to your mind and body and following a pace and distance that is comfortable for you.

Fun or exercise?

Fun or exercise? | Jumping on the fitness bandwagon | Scoop.it
Researchers found that if you think of your next workout as a 'fun run' or as a well-deserved break, you'll eat less afterward. However, if you think of it as exercise or as a workout you'll later eat more dessert and snacks, to reward yourself.
Rachel Chan's insight:

Your perception and attitude towards working out can have a significant impact on your food intake after a workout. This academic study found that people who view their exercise routine as simply a workout consumed post-workout meals that had twice the amount of calories as compared to that of a person who views exercise as "fun". This tends to be the case most of the time because people feel like they have earned a reward after a tough workout and it results in them overindulging or overeating.

5 Juice Cleanse Dos and Don'ts

5 Juice Cleanse Dos and Don'ts | Jumping on the fitness bandwagon | Scoop.it
Detoxes and cleanses have become so mainstream, you may feel like you're doing something wrong if you haven't tried at least one. But the truth is detoxes and cleanses aren't right for everyone, and they can even backfire. The key to reaping the rewards is finding what works, and doesn't work, for...
Rachel Chan's insight:

Since everyone seems to be jumping on the 'juicing' bandwagon, we should get ourselves acquainted with the basic dos and don'ts. Juice cleanses require a lot of discipline and mental determination because you aren't allowed to consume any other food for 1, 3 or 7 days depending on the juice cleanse you have selected. For some, this diet can backfire because you can end up caving and binge-eating when your diet is so heavily restricted. When it comes to fitness and health, there is never a one-size-fits-all since our bodies all react differently and we all have different needs. Thus, we have to choose cleanses that are suitable for us in order to ensure that we get the most out of it. Sometimes, such cleanses can affect our mental state and make us moody and irritable. Ultimately, these cleanses are meant to rid our bodies of toxins and make us feel better and more energized so you shouldn't be feeling absolutely miserable throughout your cleanse.
