Anastasia's insight:

One of the top leading excuses to avoid exercise is that “we don’t have time” or “I’m feeling lazy right now” and so on. However, there are simple things you can do to still keep up with your physical health just as fast as ordering that greasy pizza you’d usually choose over exercise. Stretching is a simple exercise that still is considered as exercise. The fascinating thing about it is that you can do it straight in your own home. Some simple stretches that any of us can do is the pelvic tilt where you basically lie down on the ground and pull in one of your knees towards your chest. Also, another stretch is the trunk stretch. It’s accomplished by lying down on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Then you’d wrap a towel or a stretching band around your foot and pull it all the way up to the ceiling and repeat with the other leg. See? It’s as simple as that, even with materials found straight from your own very home! Doing simple stretches once in a while at some point in your day will improve not only your flexibility, but a pace closer to improving a physical aspect in your health.

I really like the way the writers of this blog include valuable content/advice in addition to sound fitness advice.  From the article:

Boost your looksSkip long, hot showers and pot for shorter, cooler ones. Blisteringly hot water strips skin of moisture and washes away the natural protective oils. So limit showers to ten minutes and keep the water warmish.

Use olive oil to smooth your skin. It contains monounsaturated fat, which rehydrate the skin without leaving a residue. It’s also cheaper than most cosmetic oils. Smooth a couple of drops over your face, elbows, knees and the backs of your arms every evening.

Anastasia's insight:

A part of living a healthy lifestyle is keeping up with your physical fitness. Getting your body involved in cardiovascular and strength workouts is a great way to fulfill that aspect in your healthy living; however, a key component to remember is to never over train yourself since this is what leads to the opposite, losing muscle and becoming weaker to a point where it may hurt our performance levels. We may go out for a jog, or hit the gym and not see any results due to overtraining. It is important for our body to have that rest time in order to repair and build the muscle. Breaking down your workouts to target each muscle group once or twice a week on different days is the best way to become more physically fit. In addition, just doing the physical routine at the gym isn’t everything to our body. Our muscles, just like our mind, need that good 8 hours of sleep every night to have proper restoration until the next workout. Next time, you believe that you’re getting progress done by working out 24/7, think again.

From the article:

You can always be at the gym training and training but never make any progress.

How’s that possible?

It’s called overtraining.

And it’s a serious problem among bodybuilders that can be avoided if we are aware of the symptoms and how to prevent it.

Anastasia's insight:

We all might think if we go jogging, we are working improving our cardiovascular system, but are we really? There are many key components that help you train and tell you that you’re improving. A few ways can be by improving the intensity level, the time, but most of all, your heart rate. A good way to monitor your intensity levels for your cardio workout is by knowing what your target heart rate should be. A target heart rate defines as the rate at which how many beats per minute you want your heart to beat during an exercise. This can be figured out through a simple equation of subtracting your age from 220. For example, my age is 17 years old, so 220-17=203bpm. Therefore, next time I want to go exercise, I would want my heart rate to be at 203bpm or above in order for my workout to provide a positive effect on my cardio respiratory system.
