Broken Age - Double Fine Productions

Broken Age - Double Fine Productions | Finnick's World News | Scoop.it
A new crowdfunded adventure game from Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions
izzy branscomb's insight:

A new point and click adventure game came out by Double Fine, and I am so excited for it. You get to play as two different characters and get to switch back and forth from them whenever you please. It's about a boy, Shay who lives in this robot-thing that's overprotecting him and distracting him with "missions", and Vella, a girl who is chosen for the maidens feast which she finds out is a giant sacrifice party. The art is amazing and it has such good voice actors and plot. What's not to like about it?

RECALL: Pro-Pet recalls dry dog and cat food due to possible salmonella ...
WXYZ
(WXYZ) - The FDA has issued a recall of dry dog and cat foods due to possible salmonella contamination. Pro-Pet LLC, in St.

izzy branscomb's insight:

There's not much in the article that cant be summarized from the headline, but it's sad because when an animal gets sick, it has no way of communicating unless it's through their actions. But usually, once people do start noticing something like the dog or cat throwing up, it's usually too late or something that's incurable. So if a dog gets salmonella, humans might not actually worry until there's nothing anyone can do. And since we're the animal's owner, it's cruel to give the only food that the animal gets to eat something that can possibly kill him and not notice the animal get sick and soon just drop dead

Russian men losing years to vodka
The Guardian
Overall, a quarter of Russian men die before reaching 55, compared with 7% of men in the UK and fewer than 1% in the United States.
izzy branscomb's insight:

Scientists did a study with 151,000 Russian men from1999 to 2010. During that time, 8.,000 of the men died and 35% of the men died because of too much alcohol. I'll never fully understand why people drink or smoke, sometimes it's just because and sometimes it's out of depression. I don't know much about Russia other than what Ji-Wei screams at me, but I know that it isn't communnist anymore. It's a massive number of men who die from alcohol in Russia, kind of like how Americans have a huge number for suicide

izzy branscomb's insight:

So Johnson & Johnson have taken out formaldehyde from the baby shampoo. I dont know quite what it is, but in the article they talk about how they dont know if they can answer if this will give the baby cancer. They say that they will get the new product on the shelves in a matter of months. But what bothers me is that they say its "improved" because usually when you take a chemical out, you have to put one in. But I'm glad companies are starting to change their products so that they are not so toxic, even though they have the posion control phone number still on them

izzy branscomb's insight:

So this article talks about how they found this chemical in our sodas such as pepsione or particular fizzy drinks. When given to lab mice, they got cancer. So basically were just helping death kill us faster. I mean putting harmful chemicals in our food is just us saying that we dont care about how we treat our bodies. Im not going to be a hypocrite because I indulge in these kind of foods too, but it's awful to think we have set up the human race for failure because we have to eat, and everything we eat pretty much will one day kill us

izzy branscomb's insight:

This article states that Japan put out frozen food with pesticides that caused nausea. The pesticide in the food has been certified in the US and is used on crops and other food. I dont really have too much to say about this because this is kind of what we get for putting pesticides in plants  and altering food so it looks better. This incident happened in a package of frozen food, so the pesticides were for probably to make sure the food would last longer.

Can Smoking Hurt Your Sleep?

A new study shows that smoking leads to changes that ultimately affect functioning of the lung's circadian clock -- suggesting smoking can negatively affect sleep.

Via Troy Mccomas (troy48)
izzy branscomb's insight:

In this article, they talk about how smoking or just being around second hand smoke for long periodsof time can alter sleep pattern. But they also talk about doing an expiriment with lab rats to test their theories. It's off topic about the smoke, I mean, smoke is bad and it affects people who dont even smoke, but I really am not a fan of testing new products or anything on animals. Why do people think that human lives are more important than other things? I know that humans are more powerful than rats in a way, but it doesnt mean we can just go around rubbing covergirl make up all over other creatures.

izzy branscomb's insight:

This article talks about what the healthier choice is between white bread and brown bread. Though the obvious choice is brown bread, they claim that brown bread may be healthier than white bread, but it's still not the healthiest food to eat. They say that some brown bread also contains processed ingrediants, so not all brown bread is the best option. They say that rye bread is what's best though it's hard to find, but it's the healthiest because every single ingrediant is natural.

K-Na ratio is important. We should be comsuming 5:1, yet the typical Western diet is more like 1:2 or worse. Love salty foods? Buy potassium supplements.

Via Troy Mccomas (troy48)
izzy branscomb's insight:

Surprisingly, there are foods that are supposingly addictive. But everything can be addictive, even a granola bar if you really like them. The groups of food in order from 5 to 1 are salty snacks, bread and pasta, food containing high amounts of fat, chocolate and number 1 was unsurprisingly sugar. But in the sugar category is Oreos, which in a study was concluded are an addictive food. And I'll agree with them full on, I think I stuff my face with 20 in just one sitting. I also felt kind of depressed after reading the article because then I felt kind of fat

10 Things You Should Never Say to Your Child About Food
Huffington Post
As parents, we all say things to encourage our kids to eat healthier.
izzy branscomb's insight:

In the Huffingtonpost article, they state how kids percieve what we say differently. For example, the fact that if we tell them to do something good will give them an award is a bad habit many parents do. It just tells the kid to keep doing good to get a prize, but has no clue why the deed is good. It also has an example of comparison, like when you compare a child to its older sibling. It's probably why younger kids hate their older siblings because they do everything right and why older kids hate their younger siblings because they never do anything wrong in their parent's eyes

So this video is basically a really bad music video about a girl having an urge for Chinese food. There's really nothing greath about it because it's basically like Friday by Rebecca Black. I really don't like how these days music videos or any kind of video can get popularity because of how terrible it is, so we tell everyone about. Just look at Miley Cyrus and that's all there is. izzy branscomb's insight:

In the article, they talk about how much work it takes to create and test a new fast food product. The fast food giants such as KFC and Mcdonalds have to buy farms for the new ingredients and map out new transportation. Testing a new product isn't easy, especially when it comes to food. I wonder of they have secret hidden labs somewhere where they make and test new products years before advertising it. I bet they're already thinking of the 2-pounder for Mcdonalds.

Google has announced a new product, the Beep, which allows you to play music on already owned speakers. It can also let two people play different music at the same time. They're working with Pandora to be able to work with IOS and Android. What makes me laugh a little is that they're putting it in two different colors, copper and dark grey, because from the picture I don't think that the color would make a difference. I wish companies would make new products, not just improve products that they announced last year, but they just made the screen bigger or fixed all the bugs.

Wal-Mart: Food stamp cuts to hit profits
CNNMoney
Wal-Mart Stores warned Friday that cuts to the nation's food stamps program late last year will hurt its bottom line. The cut in food stamps went into effect Nov.
izzy branscomb's insight:

So in this article, on November 1st, the Government has cut a percentage of food stamps and will slowly keep cutting food stamps. They estimate that this'll save them about $1 billion a year. But to me, I think they have set up themselves for failure. It depends though, because some people use food stamps because they just can't afford food, but they have jobs that can sustain themselves. But if the government's going to cut that, and expect them to get better salaries and just use the money on military, then it's just all going to backfire. And it's not helping when companies have to cut jobs and salaries, because then those at the bottom kind of stay at the bottom and those with those jobs go to the bottom to

This cheers me up, that the badger population over the past 30 years in england has doubled. Some factors that may contribute to this is t hat the winters have been warmer, so cubs can surivive throughout the winter. And also that badgers have been protected since 1992. izzy branscomb's insight:

This article talks about how at a nursing home, 5 were dead and 30 were missing. My question is: why would people take others that are over 80? The problem with elders is that they really cant cause any harm besides what they have to say. This article says that most of the tuna we eat is actually a kind of fish that causes digegstive problems. And they say that 50% of tuna in grocery stores isnt actually tuna. This reminds me of when I found out what were in chicken nuggets, that pink mush stuff from different parts of the chicken or even other animals entirely. Recently, the World Health Orginazation added Cancer to the health risks from air pollution. Like many, they say that the only solution to slowly preventing these kind of things is by cleaning the air. I agree with this, but I don't believe that this will be achieved anytime soon because the technology we use today has to burn gas or won't work. In the YouTube video, they talk about how they have began to develop a 3D printer that can print food for astronauts. I think this is a big step in technology because it means that food can be made more easily. They have already made chocolate from the 3D printer and have been given a grant to develop more food. To me, one of the downsides of the 3D gun is that virtually anything can be made, including weapons. They already have plans for a 3D gun, and it can be taken off the internet for free.
