Ways to Develop Your Child's Financial Literacy - Atlanta Black Star

Ways to Develop Your Child's Financial Literacy - Atlanta Black Star | Financial Awareness | Scoop.it
Jacob Pavek's insight:

My thoughts:

This article makes good points regarding the state of our youth's financial awareness - or lack thereof. The statistics it offers regarding financial awareness show that American kids do not understand that much about financial awareness. The ways it suggests we educate our youth are to start educating from a very young age and continue to build and grow values. By giving kids a piggy bank, they can learn to grow and develop an account which contains money. By showing your kid your own experiences involving finances and using real-world examples to educate them, they can become better financially aware. Many of the points offered in this article are similar to points made in my other two scoops. These similar points are obviously good ideas because they are points made by two different sources.

Jacob Pavek's insight:

My thoughts:

I think this contest is a creative way to help young adults become more financially aware. The contest's monetary prizes and other benefits will encourage university and college students to make creative and effective videos to educate young adults. Opening up the contest to such a wide range of people - college students - allows for many different ideas to be conveyed through the videos. Even though there is only one winner, many of the videos will be educational and beneficial for college students to watch. The restriction to a 30-second video also encourages young adults like myself to watch them. Rather than watching a couple longer videos which could lose my attention, I (and other students) could watch many of these short videos which all offer a unique perspective on financial awareness and literacy.

Jacob Pavek's insight:

My thoughts:

These 7 steps offer a method for parents to help develop their kid's financial literacy. Through these steps, a child will understand much of the responsibilities an adult has in being financially sound and secure. I agree that the best way a kid can learn about future finances is through their parents. Much of what I have learned regarding finances came from my parents. After reading this, I wish to learn more from my parents such as how taxes work and how different expense payments work. This article outlines 7 great steps which could help me, and other teenages like me, become financially aware.
