Gabe's insight:

This article talks about the what the author believes is the top 15 movies of the year.

I believe a pro to this list is that it includes the movie Gravity and a con is all the other movies it picked, like Spring Breakers.

Indie Wire gives us their thoughts on the best scores of 2013.  No doubt, they would do well to listen to more scores than from the just some of the most talked about films of the year.  Their choice for #1 is, not to impune the composers work (as little as their was) at all, comedic.

For film scores, composers create a world, note by note

For film scores, composers create a world, note by note | Film Scores | Scoop.it

A film's music is often considered a character itself, and this season the roles composers have to play aren't getting any easier. Talking about love between the emotionally unstable is one thing, but how, for instance, does that sound? Or when a character speaks to God, should God answer back with silence or an orchestra? And what of a period piece that isn't a period piece, or a piece that's six periods at once? Here we offer a look at just a handful of 2012's notable film scores.

Gabe's insight:

In this article, it talks about how important a score is to a film. It also dives into some of the best film scores from 2012 and has interviews from the creators of these magnificent film scores.

I agree with this article as I believe a film score can make a film way more enjoyable and lovable. It puts you into the film.

The complexities that must go into a film score are impressive.  The article also talks about "The Life of Pi", which had an amazing score.

Gabe's insight:

In this article, Danny Elfman, talks about having the music he's composed being shown live at the Nokia theatre. He mentions his experience and how it was an amzing time.

I think this is a cool article as it shows his little shrine and how even a top notch film composer can get nervous and shows hes just as human as the rest of us.

Revenge of the Return of the Jedi OST

Revenge of the Return of the Jedi OST | Film Scores | Scoop.it
Picture this: it's 1983. The space shuttle Challenger makes its maiden voyage, the world mourns the passing of Karen Carpenter, and moviegoers everywhere thrill to the climactic chapter of the Star Wars saga, Revenge of the Jedi.

But a Jedi doesn't seek revenge, I hear you shout. But this isn't normal 1983, it's alternate-1983 and there's none of that "Return" bull here. In 1983A, anything can and will happen. Events can be replayed, crimes can be undone. And it's one particular crime that we're going to undo today, a musical crime committed against one of the greatest film scores the world has ever known: the original motion picture soundtrack of Return of the J

Gabe's insight:

This article was a little more fun for me because I love Star Wars! It dives into the film score of Return of the Jedi and explores a crime committed against it.

I beleive it is a funny thing to bring up as most people would'nt even notice it normally, but it does bring up one of the best movies of all time.

In this article, it talks about composer Clint Mansell performing his pieces live at the Wordless Music Series. Including famous pieces from many highly acclaimed films that we all love.

I think this is awesome as I love seeing live shows of film scores, the way they pull the performance off without flaw is amazing!
