Photography and its Importance in Life

Photography and its Importance in Life | Fergal Kearney Photographic | Scoop.it
Hasn't it been good too that I have been on hand over all these years to capture and record many thousands of moments like this one of my mother and god-daughter? The answer is yes.
Fergal Kearney's insight:

Some people forget the importance of photography to family, to memory and to community and not least to history.  This blog article reflects on one photographers view on its influence in his life.

Scary Movie Bellaghy Style

Scary Movie Bellaghy Style | Fergal Kearney Photographic | Scoop.it
Here's a wee video of a short 2 mile journey along the Scribe Road in Bellaghy that might normally have taken about two minutes, taking just under seven.
Fergal Kearney's insight:

It’s probably only once or twice in an average Irish lifetime that we have a really Arctic winter, but the winter of 2010/11 was just such an event.  Six whole weeks of heavy snow and freezing temperatures brought the poor old place to a total standstill, turning our country lanes into ice rinks and nearly impassable (and completely so later on in the season).

A good photo is always a visual feast, but it often takes a great photo to make you hear the music, smell the scents, and live the events. One such photo is featured above.

Fergal Kearney's insight:

Great to be on hand to take a great photograph - don't know where or when but looks like the 1940s or 1950s!  But it's great.

My World in Pictures – Part 6

My World in Pictures – Part 6 | Fergal Kearney Photographic | Scoop.it
Fergal Kearney's insight:

My little Nikon Coolpix 4800 was a revelation!  Lifting the camera and being able to frame your image on a bright LED screen was something to behold – much like I would imagine stepping out the Victorian age into an unrecognisable future.  But the real beauty of digital was the simple fact that when you pressed the shutter release, it didn’t sound like a distant cash register ringing to remove cash from your wallet.  Instead, it opened up a whole new era of guilt-free photography and risk free photography at that...

Road Trip to Dingle, Ireland

Road Trip to Dingle, Ireland | Fergal Kearney Photographic | Scoop.it
Ireland's south west is unusual in that your journey only begins when you actually reach towns like Tralee, Killarney, Kenmare or Bantry.
Fergal Kearney's insight:

It's that time of year again when (belatedly in 2013) Spring has arrived and Ireland is at its greenest.  The air is redolent of new shoots, the hedgerows aglow in the sunshine, the birds competing with each other in the trees.  This is the time of year when I feel the urge to get into the car, pack a bag, point south and see where I can get to before dark - and dark comes dropping slow at this time of year!  Enjoy this road trip through one of Ireland's most spectacular landscapes.

Few of you will ever be in this place – in one sense that’s a pity because if is serene and beautiful – but in another sense, I have it very much to myself!
